Emmerdale’s Gemma Oaten was joined by EastEnders star Max Bowden and many more at the SEED Gala in London.

The 39-year-old former Yorkshire Dales resident, who developed anorexia at 10 before struggling with bulimia, took to the carpet on Wednesday evening for the event at Goldsmith’s Hall in London.

Gemma rose to fame for her parts in the ITV soap world, playing the role of Rachel Breckle in Emmerdale and Isla Haywood in Coronation Street.

The star’s disorder prompted her parents to set up the SEED (Support and Empathy for people with Eating Disorders) charity to help others with the disease.

Gemma, who wowed and a turquoise gown, was also joined by This Morning regular Ranj Singh and Common As Much star Anthony Barclay.

This comes after the Rachel Breckle actress revealed she was recently in hospital after a fall.

She detailed the incident on her Instagram, telling followers she sustained an injured elbow.

During an update, she said: ‘Then I fell. Literally. Really badly on the walk home with Ruby on Wednesday night. I then went to A&E and discovered I’ve got some nice little chips of bone off my elbow and now I’ve a glamorous sling & a heap of painkillers.

‘Why am I sharing this? Well, to say – that’s life! It’s got it’s ups & downs, but it’s how you handle it that is the game changer.

She continued: ‘I’m so blessed for this week. I’m so grateful for the moments, the friendships & the support of all I’m striving for. But most of all I’m proud of myself & how I have reacted.

‘As the quote goes “our greatest glory is not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall” CONFUCIOUS.

‘I’m grand, I’m feeling so positive and empowered and considering the girl I was – I am bloody delighted with the open, authentic, vulnerable, bounce back ability woman I am becoming.

‘Life is a journey. Keep learning. You matter.’

Back in June, actress Gemma recalled the incredible moment when she reunited with a lady called Joyce, who cared for her when she was diagnosed with anorexia at 11 years old.

Within the social media post, Gemma wrote: ‘Joyce looked after me when she was a carer at the unit I was admitted to with #anorexia at 11yrs old & given 24hrs to live.

A place that many who were meant to be helping me, treated me like I was nothing. Treated in a barbaric way, doing more harm then good [sic].’

She also said: ‘I tell the story of Joyce whose kindness I believe kept me alive [sic].’

Craig Fairbrass
Craig Fairbrass is one of the stars in BBC’s latest drama Boat Story (Picture BBC)

Viewers have been gripped by the latest BBC drama Boat Story, and one person is serving as a familiar face for EastEnders fans.

The series follows two strangers, played by Daisy Haggard and Paterson Joseph, who discover a mass of illegal drugs on a boat that’s washed up on shore.

They decide to team up in the hope of scoring their fortune after being down on their luck… but then, they end up having the mob and the police to contend with.

In the new show, actor Craig, 59, plays henchman Guy, who works for The Tailor and is given the task retrieving the lost shipment of illegal drugs.

However, fans remember the actor as notorious ‘hardman’ Danny Sullivan on the BBC soap.

Dan came to the Square originally as the boyfriend of Carol Jackson (Lindsay Coulson), before it was revealed that he’d previously had an affair with her daughter Bianca (Patsy Palmer) – which he then rekindled.

Dan Sullivan EastEnders
Craig played Dan Sullivan in the early noughties (Picture: BBC)

The character played a huge role in the Who Shot Phil Mitchell storyline, which aired way back in 2001.

Altogether Craig appeared in 137 episodes as Dan, and when last heard of the character was living in Spain – so in theory could return at any time.

When the truth was revealed and Carol and Bianca departed Albert Square, Dan was left on his own and decided to buy Grant’s (Ross Kemp) share of the pub – for a fiver!

Quick spoiler, Dan didn’t actually shoot Phil Mitchell in 2001.

It was Lisa – Phil’s ex and Louise’s (Tilly Keeper) mum. The moment where Lisa was revealed as the shooter was watched by 22 million people!

The 59-year-old, has appeared in a variety of films since his role in EastEnders including voicing characters in video games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

He’s also appeared in Hijacked and played Pat Tate in the Rise of the Footsoldier film series.

Coronation Street flooded with Ofcom complaints – and the reason why is disappointing https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/23/coronation-street-hit-ofcom-complaints-gay-intimate-scene-19866716/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/23/coronation-street-hit-ofcom-complaints-gay-intimate-scene-19866716/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2023 09:37:27 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19866716
Billy attends an appointment with Paul in Coronation Street

Coronation Street has actually been hit with Ofcom complaints following a romantic scene with Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

Paul was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in emotional scenes earlier this year.

He originally thought he had injured his hand after being hit by the Underworld van, but soon learnt that his loss of movement was due to MND.

Since then, his condition has progressed, and he now relies on a wheelchair to get around. Things are only set to progress further for Paul, who will eventually lose the ability to speak.

In an episode that aired on Wednesday November 15, Paul and Billy visited a speech and language therapist, who explained how they could use equipment to replicate Paul’s voice.

Back at home, Billy suggested that they tried recording some things like the specialist had said, but Paul interrupted him with a kiss, saying that he was too busy ‘living life to the full’.

After a romantic afternoon on the couch, Billy and Paul read through the book they had been given, before reflecting on the reignited passion of their sex lives.

As Billy told Paul that he loved him, Paul pulled out his phone to record himself playing it back, so that he’d always be able to let Billy know that he loved him, even when he can no longer speak.

However, the episode has been hit with 52 complaints.

While some praised the intimate moment, others were thankful Billy’s guardian Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) was elsewhere.

One person wrote on Twitter, aka X: ‘Thank Christ Summer didn’t go straight home lmao.’

Another added: ‘Not being Homophobic, but Summer has to sit on that.’ [sic]

Ever since Chris Clenshaw took over the role as EastEnders boss, fans have loved seeing the development of the BBC One soap and how introducing new characters – and bringing old ones back – impacts the current Walford community.

Of course, one of the biggest returns in recent years has been that of Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins). The EastEnders audience were left in shock earlier this year when it was confirmed Cindy was actually alive and now, she is living in Albert Square trying to fit back into London life.

An episode set in France allowed us to discover that Cindy was living under cover as Rose Knight shortly after her arrest 20 years ago.

The instalment also confirmed Cindy was in a relationship with Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and living with their son Peter (Thomas Law).

When Cindy returned to her old home she was met with the Knight family. While living as Rose, Cindy married George (Colin Salmon) and gave birth to Gina (Francesca Henry) and Anna (Molly Rainford), but was told to leave the family for protection purposes after she travelled from Marbella to Walford following Lucy Beale’s murder.

Elsewhere, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) was left horrified a few weeks ago when Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) headed back to the Queen Vic pub.

Last seen in 2016, Dean is now working alongside Cindy and Ian for their new pie and mash business, and living in Walford because he needs to be close to daughter Jade, who is unwell and in hospital.

EastEnders has been on our screens for over 35 years and while it’s important for the soap to be modern and current, the return of old characters not only excites fans but certainly brings an element of nostalgia to the show.

Chris Clenshaw has been reflecting on his time as the boss of EastEnders so far and when asked about bringing more characters back, there was one name at the top of his wish list.

‘Grant Mitchell, for more brotherly drama with Phil!’, he said during a chat with TV Times.

Grant was last seen in 2016, when he reunited with his family for Peggy Mitchell’s (Barbara Windsor) funeral.

Way back in January, Ross Kemp was once again asked about reprising the role.

‘I don’t think you can ever say never, you know?,’ he told The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas, who posed the question from a fan on social media.

‘I loved the part, I did it for 10 years.

‘I must have liked it because I stayed there for 10 years. But, you know, look, it was great fun, I loved the cast, it was a great job. [I’m] doing lots of different things right now, but never say never!’

Love was in the air as Coronation star Rob Mallard joined real life couple Joe Duttine (Tim Metcalfe) and Sally Carman (Abi Webster) during the opening night of the UK tour premiere of Hamilton at Manchester’s Palace Theatre.

The Daniel Osbourne actor, 31, recently went Instagram official with his new man, modelling agent Matthew Martin.

And the pair posed for the carpet on what was a star-studded evening.

Real life couple Joe and Sally were joined by Sally Dynevor and her daughter Hattie.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Les Dennis was also in attendance.

Romance rumours around new couple Rob and Matthew started circulating earlier this year and more precisely in March.

Confirmation of the relationship follows after Rob’s co-star ex Daniel Brocklebank (aka Billy Mayhew in the Manchester-based drama) showed off his own new partner.

Rob and Daniel dated in 2017 but, unable to cope with the pressure of working on Corrie and their routine off-screen, the couple parted ways while remaining great friends.

A source previously told The Sun: ‘It was a lot of pressure for both of them to be working on the same show and going out in the end something had to give. They decided to part ways a couple of weeks ago but they’re still great friends and hope to remain that way.’

Over in Coronation Street, things are going to get pretty interesting for Rob’s character as his ex Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) returns.

Show boss Iain MacLeod teased that Bethany and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) will have an almighty clash, butting heads due to their feelings for Daniel.

EastEnders star Navin Chowdhry has paid an emotional tribute to his mum on social media.

The Nish Panesar actor, 52, shared a sweet snap of his late mother via Instagram Stories alongside a lyric from Ed Sheeran’s Visiting Hours.

He captioned the picture: ‘I wish that heaven had visiting hours.’

This time last year Navin posted a black and white snap of his mum on Instagram.

He wrote: ‘Miss you mum. There are no words to say how much. It’s no surprise that the hardest year of our lives was the year you were no longer here. One year ago today. Love you always mum.’

Earlier this year, the soap star’s wife, Mrs C, as he affectionately calls her, underwent surgery for breast cancer, which Navin revealed in an emotional video on Instagram – during which he reflected on his wife’s journey and shared his best wishes to all ‘cancer warriors’.

Navin’s EastEnders character, Nish, is currently embroiled in a big storyline that sees the Panesar family take centre stage.

His on-screen wife Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) finally found the courage to reveal her true feelings for husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry) in emotional EastEnders scenes.

Despite having fallen in love with soulmate Eve Unwin (Heather Peace), Suki has been trapped in her marriage with abusive Nish, who recently returned to her life after spending 20 years behind bars for murder.

Suki very nearly managed to escape her situation earlier this year, when she made plans to run away with Eve and leave Nish behind for good. However, her plan was rumbled by son Vinny (Shiv Jalota) who gave her an ultimatum: Eve or her family.

With Vinny having promised to tell Nish everything if she chose Eve, Suki panicked that her lover would end up hurt, seeing as Nish had previously killed a man in a jealous rage. Because of this, and the love of her children, she chose to stay with her family.

Coronation Street and Hollyoaks’ Lucy-Jo Hudson has shown some love to fellow soap and current I’m A Celebrity star Danielle Harold.

The Lola Pearce-Brown actress, 31, was confirmed as one of the stars trading Albert Square for the outback.

Before making her jungle debut, Danielle – who has explained she is ‘a little bit ditzy’ revealed she wanted to dispel the idea of being a ‘dumb blonde.’

While the star no doubt received a lot of support from her EastEnders family, Lucy-Jo, 40, also sent a personal shout-out to Danielle.

Sharing a selfie of the duo via Instagram Stories, Lucy-Jo wrote: ‘I had the pleasure of working with @danielle_harold a few months ago and I can honestly say she is just as beautiful on the inside.

‘Smash it gorgeous girl.’

This comes after the Donna-Marie Quinn actress revealed she was taken into hospital after needing an emergency blood transfusion.

Updating her Instagram followers, Lucy-Jo shared a mirror selfie of her wearing workout gear along with her exercise log.

She penned: ‘So just as I started getting into the gym last month….. I obviously wasn’t well… so it’s taken a while to get back into my fitness again. But now I’m on the mend I really wanted to do this for me ♥️

‘I find fitness is so good for my mind, and as much as it may hurt at the time I feel amazing when I’ve completed my workouts 💪🏻😂.’

She concluded: ‘Has anyone else noticed that being accountable to someone helps motivate you? I’ve realised I’m useless by myself as there’s always an excuse and I find myself taking myself off to a nice warm coffee shop instead of hitting the gym.’

Wise words Nat (Picture: Getty)

EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy shared some words of wisdom to her Instagram followers.

The actress made her arrival in 1993, with Sonia Fowler soon becoming a firm favourite for fans thanks to her iconic behaviour and love for playing the trumpet.

One of Sonia’s earliest storylines – which is still talked about today – saw her give birth without knowing that she was pregnant.

The soap star, 40, recently shared a glowing selfie alongside some motivating words for her 394K followers.

She wrote: ‘You never know what’s around the corner. Enjoy every day you have, enjoy meeting new people, enjoy good food, enjoy your friends and family, just enjoy it all. Happy Hump day!

It seems as though fans needed to hear that uplifting message as one replied: ‘Nice positive start to Wednesday thanks Nat.’

Another added: ‘Positive start. Thanks Nat. Looking beautiful as always.’

A third agreed: ‘Thank you. That is just what I needed to read to start my day today.’

Natalie, who has been hailed an all-round icon, was feeling reflective on her socials recently and decided to share an inspirational post confirming 2023 is the 30th year she has played Sonia.

The actress shared an Instagram post that featured actor Cillian Murphy. Underneath, a quote from the Oppenheimer star said: ‘A director told me that it takes 30 years to make an actor. And I believe that. You have to learn your craft, learn your trade – and also you have to live a life and experience things’.

The character is currently on an IVF journey with partner Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman). After Sonia expressed her worries over not being offered the treatment on the NHS because she already has a daughter, Reiss revealed that he had an account full of money that he’d forgotten about, and there was enough inside to pay for three or four rounds of treatment.

However, what he didn’t tell her was that the money actually belonged to his wife Debbie, who has been living under full-time care since suffering a stroke in the bath.

Tyler West scored major boyfriend points after surprising girlfriend and EastEnders actress Molly Rainford with the ultimate birthday party.

The Anna Knight actress was blown away after her radio DJ beau, 27, invited her loved ones to celebrate her 23rd birthday.

Molly’s EastEnders co-stars including on-screen sister Francesca Henry (Gina Knight), Jamie Borthwick, (Jay Brown) and Tony Clay (Callum Highway) were also in attendance.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star shared a string of snaps for the gram one of which included her looking stunning in a blue bandeau dress.

She penned: ‘Still buzzing about the party @tylerwestt surprised me with on the weekend! Thank you for getting all my faves together in one room !!💋

‘Can’t believe it’s my birthday tomorrow🙈 last year I was dancing my little heart out on Strictly and this year I started my new venture as Anna Knight❤️can’t wait to see what Chapter 23 has in store…’

She concluded: ‘Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this last year, i’m so so grateful 🤍 i always hope to make my family, friends and supporters proud in everything i do🙏🏾 lots of love, Molly.’

And it appeared everyone had a ball as Jamie (Jay) replied: ‘Had a blinder didn’t we.’

Actress Emma Barton (Honey Mitchell) added: ‘Happy Birthday beautiful one.’

Molly’s character Anna recently turned her back on mother Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) once more, despite her having previously made some headway – though things soon started looking up in the most recent instalment of the BBC soap.

Cindy was in Anna’s bad books after having argued with Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), she soon realised that she was going to have to take big steps in order to get her daughter back onside..

After Cindy accepted the fact that Elaine was likely to be in her daughters’ lives for good, she realised it was better to be with her than against her.

For that reason, she invited a surprised Elaine for dinner at Walford East, in order to try and let bygones be bygones.

As she debriefed the events of the meal with Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), they were interrupted by a knock at the door.

Soon, daughter Anna came running in and gave Cindy a big hug, proving that they were back on good terms once more.

Former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan was spotted looking cozy with a mystery man in the early hours of the morning.

The Rosie Webster actress, 33, appeared to be in deep conversation with an unnamed man in Manchester.

Helen was seen rocking a camel coat while her new pal wore a black hoodie.

The soap actress and  ex fiancé Scott Sinclair – who split in 2022 after 13 years together – have Matilda, seven, Delilah, four, and two-year-old Charlie, with the loving mum absolutely doting over each of them.

Helen played Rosie Webster over an 18-year period from 2000 when the character was only 10 years old. She left the soap in 2018 to go on maternity leave but has often spoken of how she’d love to go back when Charlie is a bit older.

Elsewhere, the actress shared some advice for all husbands on her social media in the form of a quote from a self-help specialist.

The message was universal but as it came in the aftermath of her and Scott’s split, it could’ve been read as being pointed in a particular direction.

‘Husbands: When you see your wife in pain or struggling, know this: She isn’t broken. She’s hurting. She doesn’t need your solutions. She doesn’t need you to tell her what she should do,’ read the quote, which is by mental health expert Dr John Delony.

‘She needs you to ask: “What are one or two ways I can best love you right now?” She is the expert on her needs, not you. Love by listening, not telling.’

Helen was seen on our screens earlier this year in I’m a Celebrity… South Africa, after appearing in the original series in 2012.

It was alleged her relationship with Scott ended following Helen’s trip to South Africa, where she filmed the All Stars special.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Helen Flanagan’s reps for comment.

Coronation Street fans were left pretty stunned after seeing Carla Medonça’s new do in the latest episode.

The My Parents Are Aliens actress, 59, was first introduced as Mrs Orla Crawshaw on the ITV soap and was mainly seen overseeing Daniel Osbourne’s (Rob Mallard) lessons following his venture into teaching.

In the latest episode Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) is on the warpath about Dylan Wilson’s missing trainers. Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) made Dylan hand the shoes over after Sean got rid of some disposable vapes that Dylan had been hiding in the house for Mason.

Sean plans to go to the school to report the missing trainers to the head, and a scared Dylan warns Mason.

Mason tells the head that it was Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) who stole Dylan’s trainers and sure enough when she opens Liam’s locker, there they are. Liam immediately realises he’s been stitched up.

But fans of the soap were left doing a double take when deputy headteacher of Weatherfield High Orla Crawshaw (Carla) made an appearance.

Another added: ‘Ms Crawshaw’s new bob yaaas.’

A third agreed: ‘Great to see Mrs Crawshaw back and loving her new hairdo!’

Carla is most known for playing the role of Sophie Johnson in CITV’s My Parents Are Aliens.

Mel, Josh and Lucy must do their best to teach Sophie and Brian how to live on Earth as of course, being aliens, they have a very muddled knowledge of human life.

Chloe slaps Charity in the street in Emmerdale
The two stars play Emmerdale enemies (Picture: ITV)

Emmerdale star Jessie Elland has opened up on her real-life friendship with ‘incredible’ co-star  Emma Atkins.

The pair’s respective characters, Chloe Harris and Charity Dingle, have been involved in a chaotic love triangle with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) – with Chloe planning revenge on the pair after Mack finally chose to reunite estranged wife Charity.

He destroyed his marriage to Charity (Emma) by sleeping with Chloe (Jessie) after an argument with Charity in the aftermath of her suffering a devastating miscarriage. Charity lashed out and told him to spread his seed elsewhere, and the stupid man went off and literally did exactly

Speaking ahead of the big showdown, actress Jessie praised her relationship with Chloe telling us: ‘Emma is incredible to work with, we get on far better than Chloe and Charity do (thank goodness).

‘She’s such an amazing actress, I’ve learnt so much from working with her.’

She added: ‘I’d jump at any excuse to keep working together so I’d be all for a storyline of them both teaming up to bin Mackenzie off.’

This comes after Jessie revealed what lies in store in the run up to Christmas.

‘In all her excitement for their first family Christmas, Chloe decorates the house early to surprise Mackenzie; even buying him a Santa outfit to wear for Reuben,’ the actress said.

‘It’s at this moment that Mackenzie blurts out that they are over. Chloe is beyond crushed and knows instantly that Charity is involved.’

Determined not to give Mack the satisfaction of seeing her upset, she brushes him off in a cold manner, only to cry to sister Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) later.

‘Chloe tries to hide how devastated she is by acting cold and numb, but this is only a bid to protect herself and her pride, as soon as she is alone, and with Amy we she just how utterly bereft she is: it’s one of her biggest fears finally realised.

However, Chloe can’t keep her cool in front of Mack for long, especially when she spots him kissing Charity in the middle of the street, as Jessie explained.

‘I think she’s embarrassed being taken for a fool; to think that Charity and Mackenzie were together, or at least planning to be while she was wilfully oblivious and trying to play happy families.’

She doesn’t quite get the welcome home she hoped for, though, as Lauren ends up getting arrested at the airport as a sniffer dog finds a substance in her bag.

Lauren is seen looking agitated as cops force her to open the large blue bag she is carrying before handcuffing her.

Julie Hesmondhalgh celebrates 10 years since Coronation Street exit: ‘The most incredible sendoff ever’  https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/20/julie-hesmondhalgh-celebrates-10-years-since-coronation-street-exit-19849821/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/20/julie-hesmondhalgh-celebrates-10-years-since-coronation-street-exit-19849821/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2023 14:12:54 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19849821

Former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh is celebrating 10 years since her iconic stint on the cobbles.

The 53-year-old is best known for playing Hayley, who first appeared on the soap in 1998 in what was only ever meant to be a short-term storyline.

This was all the more remarkable given that Hayley was the first trans character in a UK soap.

In 2013, the character was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. When treatment failed, Hayley decided to end her life on her terms, dying in 2014 in husband Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) arms.

Marking a decade since her soap stint, the Broadchurch actress shared a grainy picture of her head in her hands alongside David (Roy) on set with flowers in the corner.

She penned: ‘Ten years today. My last day on the cobbles and the most incredible send off ever. It has FLOWN by! X❤️’

Fellow celebrities and fans also weighed in on the celebration including Doctor Who screenwriter Russell T Davies writing: ‘Oh amazing ❤️❤️❤️’

Another added: ‘Loving watching Hayley and Roy in Classic Corrie right now, two of the best ever characters in the Street played so beautifully by you and David Neilson.’

A third agreed: Cutting edge transgender storyline was next level then. You portrayed Hayley with dignity and class, when I see Roy, I still see Hayley.

Reflecting on the progress that has been made since making her debut in Weatherfield, Julie previously said: ‘As a cis-gender person, I wouldn’t be able to play that part now.

‘It’s good that I left when I did because I think it would have been a little out of step of the times for me to be playing that part now.

‘There are so many amazing trans actors who are out there doing it now.’

Julie added: ‘I’m very proud of my tiny little part in the story of trans history and trans rights.’

After her exit from Corrie, Julie has gone on to appear in a variety of different TV shows including BBC One’s The Pact, she also portrayed Trish Winterman in ITV’s Broadchurch and played Heather in series 3 of The A Word, which followed an autistic boy called Joe (Max Vento) as he navigated growing up, going to school and dealing with his parents’ separation.

Emmerdale star Amy Nuttall has revealed the heartbreaking news that her mum Elaine has died, four months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The actress, who is best known for playing Chloe Atkinson on the ITV soap, shared the devastating news on social media.

Amy, 41, uploaded a series of snaps of her mother during the course of her life on Instagram.

She penned: ‘My heart is beating loudly whilst I write this. Yesterday I said goodbye to my beautiful dear mummy. She was diagnosed in July with a glioblastoma (grade 4). To say it was the biggest shock would be an understatement.

‘Together with my wonderful family, we helped care for her to the end where she died in my arms as I lay beside her on 30/10/23 at 5.05pm

She continued: ‘She humbled us all with how she handled this cruel diagnosis… never complaining, always smiling and bringing her daft humour to the fore every day. Mum, you were my rock. Always. My best friend.

Fans flocked to share their condolences with the star, with one person replying: ‘I’m so so sorry for your loss. I lost my wonderful father in September and I’m utterly devastated. I understand the pain and shock and fear and numbness you’re feeling right now. Be kind to yourself.’

Fellow Downton Abbey actress Joanne Frogart replied: ‘Darling, I am so so sorry. Sending you all my love. 💔’

Earlier this year, the Emmerdale star and her Broadchurch actor husband Andrew Buchan 44, were at the centre of split rumours following the latter’s alleged affair with Leila Farzad.

However, Amy – who shares two children with her spouse – was said to have taken Andrew back under the condition he sticks to strict rules.

It’s now been reported that Amy has once again ‘kicked Andrew out’ and that their relationship is ‘over for good’.

EastEnders star Jessie Wallace stunned fans after showing off her new makeover.

The 52-year-old actress, best known for playing Kat Slater, opted for blonde in her latest selfie.

While some fans questioned if the photo was Jessie playing about with the ‘filters,’ others were here for the colour switch.

One person commented: ‘Looks amazing , I’ve just watched a classic eastenders and in one scene you asked zoe if you would suit blonde hair the answer is definitely yes xx’

Another agreed: ‘Ooh it’s a yes from me, looking like a young Madonna xx’

EastEnders star Shona McGarty (Whitney Dean) added: ‘ERM…. WOW 🤩 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.’

In current storylines, Kat believes that her ex-husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) had been given the all clear after doctors confirmed that he had prostate cancer, only to be left gobsmacked when he revealed the truth.

Kat and Alfie have always had a close bond, even despite their rocky relationships.

For this reason, Alfie is silently pleased when Kat agrees to accompany him to the hospital for his first hormone injection.

Kat has not been Alfie’s only supporter, as Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) has stood by his side during this difficult time, refusing to let him go through his prostatectomy alone.

What Kat doesn’t know is that Alfie is harbouring a huge secret about Kat’s husband Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

After a heated row during which Kat admonished Phil for keeping Alfie’s cancer scare from her, Phil slept with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit), just days before his wedding.

It wasn’t long before Alfie found out, and battled with whether or not to tell Kat, before ultimately deciding against it, agreeing with Phil to keep his secret as long as Phil kept his true cancer results a secret in return.

Paddy and Mary talk about the future while in a field in Emmerdale
Louise Jameson currently plays  Mary Goskirk in Emmerdale (Picture: ITV)

Emmerdale actress Louise Jameson revealed she wasn’t too happy about the way she was written out of another big soap.

The actress, 72, made her arrival in the village as Mary Goskirk in 2022, but prior to that, she played Sharon Crossthwaite in the ITV soap – who turned out to be the first ever character to be murdered on the show.

And this wasn’t the only soap Louise has appeared in.

Her character Rosa di Marco featured in EastEnders for over two years — frequenting Walford between 1998 and 2000 — and appeared in over 200 episodes before she and the rest of the di Marco clan were axed as part of what was then a major overhaul.

Addressing her departure from the show, Louise said: ‘I was annoyed about the way it was announced.’

She added to Inside Soap: ‘I was only told the night before it appeared in the papers. I thought they could have run it by me first so I could tell my family. It wasn’t respectful.’

The actress played Rosa di Marco on EastEnders (Picture: BBC)

Two years after Rosa’s departure, it was revealed that the character had died following a heart-attack — a revelation which proved to be the catalyst in Beppe’s (Michael Greco) departure.

Louise also previously spoke about a storyline that was discussed that she wasn’t happy with, saying: ‘Shortly before that announcement they’d wanted to run a particular story that I wasn’t happy with and I wonder if that was the beginning of my demise. They were going to make Rosa racist.’

‘It’s not that I wouldn’t play a racist if the overall feel was anti-racism. But when you’re in a soap, people identify you so strongly with the character you’re playing so I didn’t want to appear racist.’

Louisa is also known for her role as Leela in Doctor Who.

She was a companion of the Fourth Doctor and a regular in the programme from 1977 to 1978.

Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden sparked reunion rumours with former co-star and girlfriend Charley Webb.

The pair met on the set of Emmerdale, and Matthew, 43, proposed to the 35-year-old in 2009.

However it has been a rocky road for the couple. They split in 2013, with a spokesperson saying at the time: ‘Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden have today confirmed they have separated.’

They got back together in 2015 with Matthew telling the Mirror: ‘It was never a permanent split, we just needed some time apart’.

But now, fans noticed that the soap star has re-followed his wife of 15 years, who is also the mother of his three children, Buster, 12, Bowie, six, and Ace, three.

However, despite this telling move, it has also been noticed that he has not commented on any of her recent pictures or posted about her in over a year.

This comes after The Sun recently reported that Matthew – who recently left Emmerdale after 18 years in the role of David Metcalfe – unfollowed his wife on Instagram.

An insider said: ‘Charley and Matthew were in very different places in their lives when they first got together.

‘Three kids later and with new careers in the mix, everything has changed and perhaps they are no longer the unit they once were.’

Matthew recently admitted that leaving Emmerdale was particularly difficult, getting emotional on a recent Loose Women as he said: ‘It was so emotional to say goodbye, particularly to Joe-Warren [Plant] who plays Jacob, he’s grown up with me.’

Now, he is playing Buddy the Elf in the newest revival of the musical, based on the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell.

Meanwhile, post-Emmerdale Charley bagged herself a role as in ITV police series The Long Shadow – out now – which dramatises the five-year manhunt for the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, commonly known as the Yorkshire Ripper.

Metro.co.uk has contacted both representatives for comment.

After nearly 25 years, Suranne Jones has finally reunited with her Coronation Street co-stars.

The 45-year-old actress has enjoyed a long television career, getting her first breakthrough role in Coronation Street in 2000.

The Gentleman Jack actress was introduced to the sao as Karen Phillips, a friend of Linda Sykes (Jacqueline Pirie), who was taken on at Underworld as a new machinist – and who quickly proved popular with the men of Weatherfield.

Taking to Instagram, Suranne shared a selfie with previous Corrie stars Sally Lindsay (Shelley Unwin) and Jennifer Boardman (Geena Gregory).

She penned: ‘Karen, Gina and Shelly went on a gals trip… ❤️ @sallylindsay73 @jennifer_boardman Nearly 25 years on and still as daft! #classiccorrie.’

Fans naturally went wild over the snap with one person writing: ‘Isn’t it time for you to do a show together?????’

Another added: ‘Great to the old gang back to take over Underworld.’

A third agreed: ‘Aww love the corrie reference! the early 2000s were a great era.’

Suranne’s character was last seen in Weatherfield on Boxing Day 2004, after Steve ended their marriage and asked her to leave.

Karen was written out of the show after the actress decided she wanted to move on.

‘I just thought, while she’s brilliant and I’m enjoying her, I’ve got to get out,’ she explained. ‘I was living and breathing Karen McDonald.’

In a dramatic showdown, her onscreen character of Karen led Tracey Barlow and Steve to believe their daughter Amy was dead despite her actually being with Roy.

Suranne took on the lead character of Doctor Foster in the acclaimed BBC drama Gentleman Jack.

She has also starred in Strictly Confidential, Harley Street, Scott & Bailey and Save Me – to name a few.

EastEnders actress Gillian Wright surprised co-star Lorraine Stanley with the most wholesome gift as she prepares to leave the soap.

It was announced earlier this year that the Karen Taylor star, 47, would be leaving the BBC soap, though how that will happen still remains to be seen.

Actress Lorraine, 47, has been active on social media in the last couple of days, responding to fan comments on the character and her current storyline.

However, she took the time to send a special shout-out to the Jean Slater star, 63.

Lorraine uploaded a picture of her winter attire complete with a wooly hat.

She penned: ‘I love my hat you made @therealgillianwright. It’s so warm and cosy and fits perfectly.’

When her exit from the show was announced, Lorraine took to social media to express her sadness at having to say goodbye.

‘Thank you to [writer] Daran Little for creating the Taylors and to the BBC for giving me the opportunity to play such a fabulous character,’ she said.

‘I’ll be sad to be saying goodbye to Karen Taylor and will miss all the cast and crew at EastEnders.

‘However I’m looking forward to my next chapter and excited about being a jobbing Actor again & starting new ventures.

‘Again your kind words of support have been amazing!!! I’m going to miss my Taylor/Baker famalam Clair Norris, Danny Walters, Roger Griffiths and Matthew Morrison. Much love.’

Her co-stars rushed to the comments to share their words of support, with Eve Unwin actress Heather Peace writing: ‘We will miss you very much. Here’s to new adventures lovely one.’

‘We will miss you very much,’ Jaden Ladega, who plays Denzel Danes, said.

Karen’s exit was confirmed earlier this year, with Metro.co.uk understanding that it was EastEnders’ decision to write the character out, with her final scenes set to air later this year.

Nick Pickard is one of the stars on this year’s I’m A Celebrity (Picture: ITV)

Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard has revealed the future of the soap as he prepares to enter the I’m A Celebrity jungle.

The actor, 48, who has played Tony Hutchinson since the soap first aired in 1995, is flying the Hollyoaks flag alongside politician Nigel Farage and This Morning host Josie Gibson.

For those wondering whether Nick will be returning to the soap once he’s left Australia, the star has got some good news.

Ahead of Sunday’s I’m A Celeb launch, he said: ‘This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and as soon as I was approached, I said yes. I am not quitting Hollyoaks to take part. My bosses have been really supportive of me doing it.’

And even more positively, we won’t actually see the icon leave our screens as recent filming has allowed him to get a fair few upcoming episodes in the bag, a source confirmed to Metro.co.uk.

This comes after Channel 4 confirmed a big change to its schedule, one of which includes the removal of Hollyoaks from its channel.

In 2023 64% of viewers watched the soap via streaming or E4, resulting in 556 million minutes of the show being streamed in the first half of the year.

Speaking about the shake-up, Nick added: ‘It’s all about if the money’s still coming in and we’ve been told that we definitely go on until at least the 30th anniversary so that’s as far as I know.’

‘I’m only contracted year to year anyway. So I’ve always taken each year as it comes and like every there’s a few of us in the cast and every time we get a contract we go out and have a little drink and say it’s another year in the sunshine.’

Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, Ian Katz told Metro.co.uk: ‘Hollyoaks has always been the youngest and most innovative soap so it’s fitting that it should be the first to embrace the changes in the behaviour of younger viewers and switch to a genuinely digital-led release pattern.

‘It was the first UK soap to move to a stream-first model last year and this is the next phase of that evolution.

‘We hope making Hollyoaks available on YouTube, as well as our own platforms, will introduce a whole new generation to the show.’

Emmerdale star Eden Taylor-Draper believes sister’s cancer diagnosis made family ‘much stronger’  https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/16/eden-taylor-draper-believes-sisters-diagnosis-made-family-stronger-19834613/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/16/eden-taylor-draper-believes-sisters-diagnosis-made-family-stronger-19834613/#respond Thu, 16 Nov 2023 16:34:43 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19834613

Emmerdale star Eden Taylor-Draper has revealed her younger sister‘s cancer diagnosis has brought her family closer together.

In 2020, the 26-year-old actress, who plays Belle Dingle on the hit ITV soap, opened up about her sister Francesca’s heartbreaking battle – after she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at age 14.

Eden was written out of Emmerdale for a month so as she could spend time with her sister, with the star explaining the battle has brought her family closer together than ever.

Since then, Eden has also been campaigning for the Teenage Cancer Trust, performing in a film produced by the charity amid its emergency appeal.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Eden told us how her family supported each other during the difficult time.

She said: ‘It’s so hard when something like that happens to a family. We’re very lucky and came together and supported each other.

‘For my sister to be able to talk to people and we had the option to do so as well. It actually made us so much stronger and closer than before.’

During an interview with Lorraine in 2021, Francesca explained that at one point, 97% of her blood cells were found to be cancerous, meaning that only 3% of her blood cells were deemed healthy.

While some of the symptoms she experienced were ‘generic’, such as lacking energy, she suffered ‘excruciating’ pain in her legs before finding out she had cancer.

Francesca stressed the ‘massive toll’ having cancer had on her mental health, outlining how at 14 years old, she ‘wanted to be independent’ just like other teenagers her age.

Speaking about how her sister’s diagnosis has changed her own perspective, Eden said: ‘It goes to show the little things don’t matter. As you say as humans we complain day to day about the most pointless, random things, granted but we’re so lucky and blessed.

‘It does hit home when you do go through something like that and life is so precious.

‘So yeah it has changed my mindset.’

Following her sister’s diagnosis, Eden became an ambassador for Teenage Cancer Trust, which recently launched its ‘Stop Cancer Destroying Teenage Lives’ fundraising appeal.

When asked about how Francesca is doing currently Eden told us: ‘She’s great, she’s finished treatment and she’s thriving.

‘Feeling grateful.’

Teenage Cancer Trust’s ‘Stop Cancer Destroying Teenage Lives’ fundraising appeal ensures young people with cancer receive urgently needed specialist care and support.

Emmerdale star Charley Webb shared a cryptic update following the recent split rumours surrounding her and Matthew Wolfenden.

The pair met on the set of the ITV soap, and Matthew, 43, proposed to the 35-year-old in 2009.

In her recent Instagram Story, the Debbie Dingle actress posted a cryptic message which read: ‘Ignoring life and all the jobs I need to do. Also, I want more piercings.’

This comes after The Sun claimed Matthew – who recently left Emmerdale after 18 years in the role of David Metcalfe – unfollowed his wife on Instagram.

The publication reports that up until last night, Matthew was still following Charley, and a source told them: ‘Charley and Matthew were in very different places in their lives when they first got together.

‘Three kids later and with new careers in the mix, everything has changed and perhaps they are no longer the unit they once were.’

Charley and Matthew met on the set of Emmerdale and began dating a year after he joined the soap, with the actor proposing on Christmas Day 2009.

The couple eventually tied the knot on February 10, 2018, although the wedding came as a surprise to their guests.

OK! Magazine reported at the time that the couple were joined by 100 guests at Ripley Castle near Harrogate thinking they were attending Charley’s 30th birthday – when in fact they were getting married.

‘I’m not a big one for marriage, to be honest. It’s not that important to me,’ Charley told This Morning in 2019.

‘But this just felt a good way to do it, because it took the pressure off of everybody asking me a million questions – “What’s your dress like? Who’s going to be your bridesmaid?” – and I didn’t want any of that.

‘The attention is also too much. It just felt like a lot of attention.’

Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas has sent his well wishes to fellow co-star Nick Pickard as he prepares for this year’s I’m A Celebrity.

The Warren Fox actor, 48, knows about the jungle experience all too well after he beat out competition from 12 other celebrities, and finished in second place after Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo was crowned the Queen of the Jungle in 2017.

And now soap star Nick, who plays Tony Hutchinson on the Channel 4 soap, is flying the Hollyoaks flag alongside politician Nigel Farage and This Morning host Josie Gibson.

Sharing a throwback of him and Nick on Instagram Stories, Jamie wrote: ‘Wishing this absolute legend all the best on @imacelebrity go and smash it pal and show everyone what a top bloke you are.’

Before he landed in Australia, Nick confirmed he’s not quitting the day job, and his Channel 4 bosses have been ‘really supportive’ of him joining the ITV reality show.

‘I know [my co-stars] will be rooting for me when they find out,’ he added.

‘This is going into the unknown and yes, I will miss my home comforts but I want to come away not thinking, “What have I missed?” but a greater appreciation for what you do have in life.’

Nick’s character Tony was struggling financially as of late, with his beloved boozer not exactly bringing in the cash that one might’ve expected it to.

After getting wind of his mate’s predicament, Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) offered a helping hand, telling Tony that he’ll put together a better menu that people might actually be interested in.

After giving it some thought, Tony decided to go ahead with Ste’s suggested menu, albeit adding some of his own upper-class tweaks beforehand but, despite this, he still worried about The Dog’s finances.

Opening up to Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher), Tony explained that he’s unsure of how they’ll manage to support the family with the boozer not bringing in the desired cash.

Coronation Street star Rob Mallard discusses ‘implications’ of life-long condition https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/16/corrie-star-rob-mallard-talks-implications-life-long-condition-19831332/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/16/corrie-star-rob-mallard-talks-implications-life-long-condition-19831332/#respond Thu, 16 Nov 2023 09:52:58 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19831332

Coronation Street star Rob Mallard explained the ‘implications’ about the tremor he’s had since he was 14 years old.

The actor, who plays Daniel Osbourne in the ITV soap, first discussed his essential tremor – which is a nervous system disorder that causes involuntary shaking – back in 2018.

The 31-year-old star later explained on This Morning that he was diagnosed at the age of 14, but did not realise ‘how serious it was’ until he was in his mid-twenties.

Speaking more about his experience, he told The Mirror: ‘The actual implications of having a lifelong illness that can get quite serious didn’t really hit me until probably my late teens, early twenties.’

He added: ‘When people saw it, obviously the joke would be that you’re hungover or that you’re withdrawing or want a drink or whatever. Most people don’t know what an essential tremor is and there’s something a bit pretentious about responding to that with, it’s a neurological condition.

In 2018, he told Phil and Holly that he attempted to keep a lid on the tremor, fearing it would impact his ability to get cast in shows.

Daniel confronting Ryan in Coronation Street

More recently, the actor spoke about his experiences on The Vanity Project, a podcast hosted by drag queen Vanity Von Glow:

‘It’s an essential tremor,’ he explained.

‘There’s something in the brain. I get it in my hands and arms and sometimes in the back of my neck. Katherine Hepburn had it. It’s not mentality debilitating, but it does get worse as you get older.’

‘There’s a lot of close ups on phones, but they tend to be the hardest shots because I have to use both hands. You’ve just got to work around it.’

Things are going to get pretty interesting for Rob’s character as his ex Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) returns.

Show boss Iain MacLeod teased that Bethany and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) will have an almighty clash, butting heads due to their feelings for Daniel.

Back in June, the actress had an incredible moment when she reunited with a lady called Joyce, who cared for her when she was diagnosed with anorexia at 11 years old.

Within the social media post, Gemma wrote: ‘Joyce looked after me when she was a carer at the unit I was admitted to with #anorexia at 11yrs old & given 24hrs to live.

‘A place that many who were meant to be helping me, treated me like I was nothing. Treated in a barbaric way, doing more harm then good [sic].’

She also said: ‘I tell the story of Joyce whose kindness I believe kept me alive [sic].’

The actress ended the post on a grateful note and thanked her former carer for her help, acknowledging that she was a ‘survivor’.

Former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has shared an emotional update in her dad’s cancer battle.

The Michelle Connor actress, 47, revealed that her dad Dave had been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer in 2021 during a segment on BBC’s Morning Live, in the hopes of encouraging other people to get checked.

The former Strictly Come Dancing start updated her followers via Instagram Stories and shared a picture of her in a hospital waiting room

She penned: ‘Another scan for dad. Never away from the hospital these days,’ along with a sad face emoji.

Kym has been regularly updating her fans on her dad’s health ever since he was diagnosed.

Speaking about Dave’s journey on Morning Live to co-host Gethin Jones earlier this month, Kym explained how they hoped to encourage people to get checked, revealing that Dave had delayed visiting a doctor due to the Covid pandemic.

‘His latest scan results have shown that unfortunately there are more cancer deposits further up his spine,’ Kym emotionally revealed.

‘They are doing further scans to see if it’s gone into anymore of his bones, but unfortunately they can’t offer him chemotherapy, so they advised us to go and spend lots of time with him and make lots of memories. So that’s what we’ve been doing.’

They went on to show a picture of Kym and Dave, alongside Kym’s mum Pauline at a Halloween event.

‘He’s just enjoying spending time with his family,’ she continued.

‘He’s always smiling,’ Gethin added.

Kym and Dave have an incredibly close bond, with the actress recently surprising him with a new tattoo, which she had done in tribute to him.

Posting a video of his reaction to social media, Kym explained how she had got an ice cream tattooed because of Dave’s love of the sweet snack.

‘So…..I’ve had a new tattoo for my dad!!! Since his incurable cancer diagnosis he has been obsessed with ice cream! He literally has one every day!

‘So I got an ice cream on the inside of my fore arm for him to remind me of my wonderful dad, Every time I look at it!! He’s the best ever! Love you dad,’ she wrote in the caption of the post.
