Ed holding a credit card while at home in Corrie
His emotions rise (Picture: ITV)

Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) recently got news of a Christmas visitor in Coronation Street, when Michael (Ryan Russell) told him that Grandad Sarge (Ram John Holder) would be joining them for the festivities.

Ed’s reaction was not a positive one and he told Michael he was dreading Sarge coming.

Could it have something to do with the fact that Ed is getting increasingly worried about money? He’s become so desperate that he’s started fraudulently using a credit card in the name of Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) – who used to live at Ed’s address.

The credit card fraud is Ed’s way of trying to hide that his gambling problem is back again, so he panics when Michael opens a letter from Norris’s bank telling him that the card has been frozen due to suspicious activity.

With his employee, Tony, waiting to be paid, Ed is in despair wondering how he’s going to manage.

Then Sarge arrives from Dominica for Christmas – several weeks early. Ronnie (Vinta Morgan)’s delighted to see his dad and suggests they should all go out for a big family meal to celebrate. Ed starts to panic, wondering how he’ll pay his share of the bill.

He resorts to his old ways and places a bet on the horses, keeping an eye on the race on his phone even while he’s sitting with the rest of the family at the bistro.

Meanwhile Sarge keeps needling him about his ‘business brain.’ Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) tells Joel (Calum Lill) that Sarge thinks they lost their house because of a bad business decision by Ed, rather than because of Ed’s gambling.

Ed loses his bet and starts to really sweat. Ronnie pays for lunch, but tells Ed he can pay his half later.

He has no choice but to tell Tony he can’t pay him for the work he did on Paul (Peter Ash)’s flat and confesses he’s a gambling addict and he’s lost all his money. He begs Tony not to say anything to the rest of the family.

Sarge is making himself at home, and eventually admits that his own business is struggling and he needs to borrow £2,000. Ronnie assures him that it’s no problem, they can lend him the money – but Ed is really panicking now, knowing he’s sinking fast and has no way to give any money to Sarge.

Is his gambling secret about to be exposed?

Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) is facing a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods in Coronation Street.

If this wasn’t bad enough, her prison time could leave her unable to be with dying son Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) in his final moments.

Bernie recently revealed that she could be facing up to six months behind bars, after the judge explained that her history meant she had to be handed a custodial sentence.

With Paul having been told that he only has between six and twelve months left to live following his MND diagnosis, there is a chance he could pass away while she is locked up.

Because of this, Bernie is determined to make the most of every moment she has left with her son, and soon the family take steps to make sure that can happen.

In a new spoiler video, Christmas comes early for Bernie in the form of some familiar carol singers.

As she sits down on the sofa, she is interrupted by a knock at the door, where she is surprised to find Paul, Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell), Joseph (William Flanagan) and two of the quads all dressed up in Christmas themed fancy dress.

Paul then explained that because Bernie won’t be around for Christmas, they were going to celebrate it early.

As Joseph handed over an official invitation, Gemma promised a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and a Christmas tree.

Bernie gratefully accepted the offer, but will their Christmas go to plan?

With the threat of prison hanging over Bernie, will she be able to enjoy her alternative Christmas?

Asha and Nina hold hands in Coronation Street
Nina meets Asha’s new colleagues (Picture: ITV)

Ever since Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey started her paramedic training in Coronation Street there’s been one name that’s never far from her lips – Isla.

Isla is the paramedic she’s partnered with, and Asha is totally impressed by her.

‘She is paired with this amazing paramedic who’s been there for years,’ Tanisha Gorey told us.

‘She knows what she’s doing, she’s seen it all. I think Asha’s so overwhelmed and so excited, she sort of idolises her, in a way. Asha wants to be her. Asha wants to know everything she knows, do everything she does sort of thing.’

This admiration could easily be taken for something more, but Tanisha insisted that Asha’s feelings were purely about the job.

Why is she muddling the truth? (Picture: ITV)

‘It’s more that she idolises the job that she does. Asha wants to be where she is so much, it might have been mistaken as she fancies her, which she doesn’t.’

This doesn’t stop Nina (Mollie Gallagher) being insecure about whether her girlfriend has a crush on somebody else. Aadi (Adam Hussain) suggests that it might be a good idea if Nina could meet Isla and the rest of Asha’s paramedic friends to set her mind at ease.

They arrange to have lunch together at Speed Daal and Nina tells Asha she’s looking forward to getting to know Isla and her colleague Miles.

But when she arrives at the restaurant a little late she’s shocked to hear Asha telling Isla and Miles that her girlfriend is a budding fashion designer.

Of course Nina has ambitions to get into fashion design and has done designs for Underworld, but that’s not how she currently makes her living. She can’t help but wonder whether Asha is ashamed of the fact that she works in her Uncle Roy (David Neilson)’s cafe.

Does Asha think Nina isn’t good enough for her paramedic friends?

The focus on Paul’s sex life in Coronation Street is helping banish misrepresentation of the disabled community https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/23/corrie-pauls-story-gives-vital-insight-disability-sex-19839064/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/23/corrie-pauls-story-gives-vital-insight-disability-sex-19839064/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2023 15:14:21 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19839064
Billy and Paul smiling at each other in Coronation Street
Paul has found ‘the one’ – something I feared my disability would always hold me back from (Picture: ITV)

TV and film can often make us feel that people with disabilities don’t have sex, giving the impression that they either don’t want to, or are unable to.

Representation of the disabled community is welcome, but only when it’s authentic, which is why it feels refreshing to see Coronation Street focusing on the sex life of Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), showing that he has desires, and has sex.

As a member of the disabled community, the haunting thought of ‘if it weren’t for my disability, I would have found “the one”‘ continues to linger within me.

I previously dated a person where things ended because they couldn’t cope with my disability

I knew others would say I deserved better or, most often, that he was sacrificing something of himself, and I had to understand.

I was taught that my disability was something to manage, and that I had to make up for it.

He could’ve been ‘the one’ – at least he hadn’t said, ‘I couldn’t f*** a cr*pple,’ or, ‘Can you have sex?’ like others before and after him.

I grew up in a world that constantly undermined the worthiness and desirability of disabled individuals in relationships. I was young and didn’t know better. I didn’t know anything.

I wish I had heard someone who looked like me or spoke like me say it on screen or in a magazine when I was younger, but the reality is people don’t expect us to have sex.

We’re left with half-truths and a mess of feelings — no fundamental understanding of the ins and outs of it all. We learn as we go, which can be unforgivably brutal and unsafe.

This lack of representation and conversation surrounding disabled individuals’ sexuality has cost me. I am still unlearning the destructive lessons the media and broader society taught.

It’s one reason James Moore has long advocated for his disabled character, Ryan Stocks, to have a romantic relationship in Emmerdale.

This representation reflects his experiences as a disabled person and resonates with countless others.

‘I think unlearning some of that stigma was a huge process, and then being able to build that confidence and self-worth took a long time,’ he reflected.

Dr Anna Bramwell-Dicks, a Lecturer at the University of York, emphasised the importance of including disabled people in the writing, filming, and production process, to ensure appropriate representation of disabled individuals engaging in sexual relationships, and to counter the ‘pervasive but mistaken belief that disabled people don’t have sex’ and to finally ‘demolish these misconceptions.’

We can see this through Corrie’s Paul. Since he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, he has embodied the ups and downs, the knocks and insecurities that many disabled individuals face due to societal conditioning.

Peter Ash’s portrayal brings warmth, wit, and bittersweetness to the experience.

Elsewhere, in everyday scenes, David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) shows a supposed kindness to Paul while discussing his experience with Shona after her head injury.

‘It just felt wrong, in a way, like I was taking advantage of her.’ Paul, anguished, retorted, referring to partner Billy, ‘I want him to take advantage.’

We should see these conversations on screen more often, breaking down damaging attitudes and misconceptions, via the proper chats that disabled people have with their mates and partners in real life.

No matter how many heated fumbles or fulfilling experiences I have, there remains a part of me that believes those voices who disdain my desirability, who tell me I am not a sexual being, and that I can’t make those choices, are the ones that really matter.

This representation in TV and film is also critical, because it sheds light on these insecurities and addresses the uncomfortable reality of how non-disabled people often view the sexuality of disabled individuals.

It allows disabled viewers to see a character who is unapologetic about their needs, openly discussing their desires and struggles with feeling desirable. Saying you’re disabled and horny is still a radical act.

It presents a much-needed alternative narrative, giving young disabled people a chance to see themselves reflected on screen, and feel able to embrace their sexuality without shame or judgment.

In this complex world of desires, uncertainties, and societal pressure, disabled people are constantly burdened with the nagging question, ‘do you still fancy me?’

We navigate the intricate dynamics of relationships, fearing they may unintentionally feel like a patient-carer scenario, which teaches us to be grateful and not to expect too much.

This belief that we burden others intensifies our internal struggle. It is the way Paul, a voice of reason, articulates the truth that resonates, ‘it’s normal to want sex, you know?’

For some, the idea of being disabled and horny remains a radical state of being, a realm shunned from public discourse. But here, it feels authentic, almost painful in its vulnerability and honesty.

In scenes like these, we can see a future where disabled people don’t have to spend years unpacking the harmful messages ingrained in society, making us feel undeserving of relationships and desires.

Billy attends an appointment with Paul in Coronation Street
Paul and Billy spoke to a speech and language specialist during the episode (Picture: ITV)

Coronation Street has actually been hit with Ofcom complaints following a romantic scene with Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

Paul was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in emotional scenes earlier this year.

He originally thought he had injured his hand after being hit by the Underworld van, but soon learnt that his loss of movement was due to MND.

Since then, his condition has progressed, and he now relies on a wheelchair to get around. Things are only set to progress further for Paul, who will eventually lose the ability to speak.

In an episode that aired on Wednesday November 15, Paul and Billy visited a speech and language therapist, who explained how they could use equipment to replicate Paul’s voice.

Back at home, Billy suggested that they tried recording some things like the specialist had said, but Paul interrupted him with a kiss, saying that he was too busy ‘living life to the full’.

After a romantic afternoon on the couch, Billy and Paul read through the book they had been given, before reflecting on the reignited passion of their sex lives.

As Billy told Paul that he loved him, Paul pulled out his phone to record himself playing it back, so that he’d always be able to let Billy know that he loved him, even when he can no longer speak.

However, the episode has been hit with 52 complaints.

While some praised the intimate moment, others were thankful Billy’s guardian Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) was elsewhere.

One person wrote on Twitter, aka X: ‘Thank Christ Summer didn’t go straight home lmao.’

Another added: ‘Not being Homophobic, but Summer has to sit on that.’ [sic]

Coronation Street spoilers for next week follow, with a picture gallery above teasing all the shocks and twists to come on the cobbles.

Joseph is unwell and, on Bernie Winter’s (Jane Hazlegrove) advice, Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) makes him a lavender tea in the hopes it will perk him up.

Joseph, however, passes out, with Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) later calling the ambulance. Chesney blames himself, wishing that he’d listened to Gemma, who previously voiced her concerns.

The doctor subsequently reveals that Joseph has been poisoned, leaving everyone reeling in shock.

Later in the week, a child protection officer shows up, wanting to interview Gemma. With everyone out of the house, Caitlin questions a horrified Gemma and suggests that she may have poisoned Joseph on purpose.

Will Gemma be able to prove otherwise?

Elsewhere on the Street, Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) is shocked when Sarge arrives for the holidays earlier than expected. Ronnie (Vinta Morgan), meanwhile, suggests a big family meal out, insisting that he and Ed will pick up the bill.

Having taken out a payday loan, Ed scans the racing pages and later watches the racing on his phone while Sarge makes digs.

Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) quietly explains to Joel that Sarge thinks they lost their house because of a bad business decision, not Ed’s gambling.

Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher), meanwhile, assures Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) that she’s looking forward to lunch with Isla and her senior colleague, Miles, as it’s time they got to know each other’s friends

Gemma speaks to Chesney at the Winter Brown household in Corrie
It turns her whole world upside down (Picture: ITV)

Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) recently became worried about Joseph (William Flanagan) in Coronation Street, taking the boy to hospital when he complained of a headache because she was convinced that something was seriously wrong with him.

The opinion of the doctor at the hospital was that Joseph was basically fine and that Gemma was being over-anxious. The consultant had a word with Chesney (Sam Aston), telling him he needed to get Gemma to relax a little bit.

Of course this is hard for Gemma to do. Not only does she have Joseph and the quads to worry about, but underlying all her anxiety is the fact that her brother Paul (Peter Ash) is dying of motor neurone disease, having recently been told he only has between six months and a year to live.

Paul’s MND symptoms started with what seemed like a trivial pain and weakness in is hand. It’s no wonder that Gemma goes into panic mode when one of her children is feeling unwell.

In upcoming episodes the family are planning an early Christmas so Paul can enjoy himself with his family before Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) is possibly sent to prison for handling stolen goods.

Again Joseph is complaining of feeling ill, but Gemma has learned her lesson and she doesn’t overreact but packs him off to school.

Unfortunately this time there really is something wrong and Chesney is called by the school to pick Joseph up. Arriving home, Chesney is angry that Gemma didn’t take Joseph’s concerns seriously.

It seems Gemma can’t do right for doing wrong and she storms out of the house, certain that she’s a bad mother.

With Joseph’s condition not improving, Bernie – who’s always interested in alternative therapies – tells Gemma that a nice cup of lavender tea will perk him right up. Gemma whips up the brew, but not long after drinking it Joseph passes out.

Chesney calls an ambulance and the boy is rushed to hospital. Chesney is beside himself thinking that Gemma was right all along and there’s something seriously wrong with Joseph.

They are horrified (Picture: ITV)

The doctor who’s treating Joseph comes out to have a word and Chesney and Gemma are stunned when she tells them that Joseph has been poisoned.

That’s not the worst of it, though. As the early family ‘Christmas’ gets into full swing, Gemma is trying to enjoy herself with the quads, Paul, Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) and Bernie. She knows that Joseph is on the mend in hospital and Chesney is due to bring him home soon.

But when they get back, they aren’t alone. There’s a child protection officer with them and she wants to interview Gemma.

As the party breaks up and everyone leaves, the child protection officer talks to Gemma, suggesting she may have poisoned Joseph on purpose.

How will Gemma handle the horrific accusation?

Mason squares up to Liam as their friends watch in Coronation Street
Mason threatened Liam again (Picture: ITV)

Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) really showed Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) what he’s capable of in Wednesday’s (November 22) episode of Coronation Street.

Mason has been targetting Liam because of his reluctance to get involved in the school bully’s horrible and immature ideas. The dynamic for this storyline was established a few weeks ago, when Liam knew trying a vape pen was a bad idea, but friend Dylan (Liam McCheyne) happily tried it, clearly wanting to impress Mason.

Liam was approached by Mason again in tonight’s episode after grassing him up to Gary (Mikey North). Mason and his so-called friends played on Liam’s quiet persona and made him feel small, calling him a rat and going as far as throwing rubbish at him.

When Mason started to record the ordeal, Liam smacked the phone out of his hand.

Clearly bothered by the fact Liam stood up to him, Mason tried to assert control by pulling a knife out.

Meanwhile, all Dylan did was stand and watch.

Back at the flat, Liam started playing video games with Jake (Bobby Bradshaw), Gary’s son, and spoke about the ordeal with Mason.

While Jake told Liam that Mason needed to be reported to the police, he couldn’t understand why Liam was so reluctant to get Mason into trouble.

On the cobbles, Mason was approached by Craig (Colson Smith) and his colleague.

It turns out Jake was the person to report Mason, but the sly teen got Dylan to hide the knife at his house, meaning he was let go once Craig had searched him.

Once Liam found out, he confronted Jake and then headed to his room.

With Maria (Samia Longchambon) and Gary unaware of the severity of the bullying, we saw Liam in his room in tears while receiving more vile messages from Mason – who believes Liam told the police.

As Mason’s behaviour gets darker, just when will this horrible ordeal end?

Carla speaks to Peter in the Underworld office in Corrie
Peter’s feeling trapped (Picture: ITV)

Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) is desperate for a change in Coronation Street.

The beloved character feared he was going to prison after killing Stephen (Todd Boyce) back in October, but was told by DS Swain (Vicky Myers) that time behind bars wouldn’t be needed, as she believed Peter’s actions came from a place of wanting to protect Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) and others.

While Peter was relieved, it’s left him feeling somewhat trapped.

Battling the temptation to turn to drink, life in Weatherfield for Peter currently serves as a constant reminder of killing a man and a mother saying goodbye to her son.

A few weeks ago, Peter was tempted to leave and told Carla (Alison King) about a job offer overseas.

While Peter’s eyes lit up over the prospect of sun, sea, and a new start, Carla was far too focused on Underworld, which is close to going under after Stephen left the business in a mess.

Carla told Peter that packing her bags in the space of a few days just wasn’t possible.

Not wanting to leave his partner, Peter decided to stay.

However, it became apparent tonight that Peter was somewhat regretting the decision.

Peacefully reading the paper in Victoria Garden, Peter was interrupted by Leanne (Jane Danson), who wanted him to help Simon (Alex Bain) with shifting a delivery from the restaurant kitchen.

Just before leaving, Peter glanced at a holiday competition in the paper.

The sun and blue sky made the ad look attractive for Peter, who was sat on a bench with a coat on in the cold weather.

Peter is desperate for a change (Picture: ITV)

We know that Peter’s exit will involve him and Carla reaching the conclusion that they both want different things from their life, but just where will he go?

‘They reach this enormous fork in the road where they love each other, but perhaps their happiness is no longer reliant on each other, which is to say maybe they start to wonder if they’d be happier in some other situation somewhere else basically’, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod said.

‘It all builds up to this incredibly surprising Christmas episode, then there’s a huge two-hander between the two of them, more or less they are the only two cast in the episode.

‘It’s a greatest hits compilation – for those of you that have been big fans of Peter and Carla since the start – that picks over every single detail of who are they are, what they’ve been as a couple and what they want for their future and what happiness looks like for them – and it’s building towards an exit for Peter which is really brilliant and bittersweet and feels like Corrie at it’s very best.’

Love was in the air as Coronation star Rob Mallard joined real life couple Joe Duttine (Tim Metcalfe) and Sally Carman (Abi Webster) during the opening night of the UK tour premiere of Hamilton at Manchester’s Palace Theatre.

The Daniel Osbourne actor, 31, recently went Instagram official with his new man, modelling agent Matthew Martin.

And the pair posed for the carpet on what was a star-studded evening.

Real life couple Joe and Sally were joined by Sally Dynevor and her daughter Hattie.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Les Dennis was also in attendance.

Romance rumours around new couple Rob and Matthew started circulating earlier this year and more precisely in March.

Confirmation of the relationship follows after Rob’s co-star ex Daniel Brocklebank (aka Billy Mayhew in the Manchester-based drama) showed off his own new partner.

Rob and Daniel dated in 2017 but, unable to cope with the pressure of working on Corrie and their routine off-screen, the couple parted ways while remaining great friends.

A source previously told The Sun: ‘It was a lot of pressure for both of them to be working on the same show and going out in the end something had to give. They decided to part ways a couple of weeks ago but they’re still great friends and hope to remain that way.’

Over in Coronation Street, things are going to get pretty interesting for Rob’s character as his ex Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) returns.

Show boss Iain MacLeod teased that Bethany and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) will have an almighty clash, butting heads due to their feelings for Daniel.

Coronation Street and Hollyoaks’ Lucy-Jo Hudson has shown some love to fellow soap and current I’m A Celebrity star Danielle Harold.

The Lola Pearce-Brown actress, 31, was confirmed as one of the stars trading Albert Square for the outback.

Before making her jungle debut, Danielle – who has explained she is ‘a little bit ditzy’ revealed she wanted to dispel the idea of being a ‘dumb blonde.’

While the star no doubt received a lot of support from her EastEnders family, Lucy-Jo, 40, also sent a personal shout-out to Danielle.

Sharing a selfie of the duo via Instagram Stories, Lucy-Jo wrote: ‘I had the pleasure of working with @danielle_harold a few months ago and I can honestly say she is just as beautiful on the inside.

‘Smash it gorgeous girl.’

This comes after the Donna-Marie Quinn actress revealed she was taken into hospital after needing an emergency blood transfusion.

Updating her Instagram followers, Lucy-Jo shared a mirror selfie of her wearing workout gear along with her exercise log.

She penned: ‘So just as I started getting into the gym last month….. I obviously wasn’t well… so it’s taken a while to get back into my fitness again. But now I’m on the mend I really wanted to do this for me ♥️

‘I find fitness is so good for my mind, and as much as it may hurt at the time I feel amazing when I’ve completed my workouts 💪🏻😂.’

She concluded: ‘Has anyone else noticed that being accountable to someone helps motivate you? I’ve realised I’m useless by myself as there’s always an excuse and I find myself taking myself off to a nice warm coffee shop instead of hitting the gym.’

Lucy-Jo recently left Hollyoaks, with Donna-Marie Quinn departing after a long stint as a main character, coupled with several recurring stints following her debut in 2018.

Coronation Street spoilers with Gemma, Liam, George, Ryan, Bernie and Shona
Trauma on the Street (Picture: ITV)

There’s plenty of drama to look forward to in next week’s Corrie – but for several youngsters, it’s going to be a rough ride.

Following her previous reaction to Joseph feeling unwell, Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) dismisses the situation – but it turns out that the lad has been poisoned, leaving her distraught and questioning her mothering skills.

And elsewhere, other children are experiencing serious ordeals as the bullying campaign continues.

Meanwhile, over at the Bailey household, Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) is set to take drastic action as his gambling debts spiral.

Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) has fears for son Simon (Alex Bain), and Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) feels even more insecure over girlfriend Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey).

Chesney is worried about Gemma in

Ed’s shocked as Grandad Sarge arrives early. When Ronnie suggests a big family meal out, insisting they’ll pick up the tab, Ed secretly panics.

Having taken out a payday loan, Ed scans the racing pages. As the Baileys gather in the bistro, Ed surreptitiously watches the racing on his phone, while Sarge makes digs about his business brain.

Dee-Dee quietly explains to Joel that Sarge thinks they lost their house because of a bad business decision, not Ed’s gambling. Having lost his bet Ed sweats.

Ronnie pays for lunch, telling Ed he can give him half later. Ed finds Tony and admits he can’t pay him because he’s a gambling addict and has lost all his money. As Ronnie approaches, Ed begs Tony not to say anything, will he reveal all?

Joseph tells Gemma he doesn’t feel well, but Gemma’s sceptical, aware she overreacted the last time.

But when Chesney’s called out of work to pick him up from school, he berates Gemma for not realising he was ill. When Chesney suggests she’s not coping, Gemma takes offence and branding herself a terrible mother, slams out.

Liam tries to pull a sickie, but Maria’s having none of it.  In the school corridor, Mrs Crawshaw overhears Liam quizzing Dylan about the vapes. She orders Dylan to her office whilst Mason glares at Liam.

In the café, Shona’s sick of Lauren being constantly on her phone. When she later catches her at the precinct rather than her call centre job a guilty Lauren makes out she swapped shifts, what is she up to?

Peter finds a morose Simon propping up the bar. Peter urges him not to let one setback ruin his aspirations.

As Gemma prepares for their early Christmas, Chesney remarks that Joseph still seems unwell. On Bernie’s advice, Gemma makes Joseph drink lavender tea in the hope it will perk him up.

But when Joseph passes out, Chesney’s horrified and calls an ambulance. In the hospital, the doctor tends to Joseph whilst Chesney blames himself, wishing he’d listened to Gemma all along.

The doctor drops the bombshell that Joseph’s been poisoned. Chesney and Gemma reel in shock.

Lauren presents Max with a new watch to thank him for all he’s done for her. Max is bowled over but worries that she’s spent too much. Lauren makes out she’s been given a promotion at the call centre.

Sabrina corners Lauren and tells her she was out of order buying Max a watch and needs to stop playing games.

Sarge makes himself very much at home to Ed’s annoyance. When Sarge admits that his business is struggling and he needs to borrow £2k, Ronnie assures him that he and Ed can lend him the money. Ed masks his rising panic.

George can see Liam is being bullied at school and tries to get him to open up by talking about his own experiences.

George shares his concerns with Gary.

Asha suggests to Nina they have a night out in town. But when she reveals she’s already arranged to meet her college friends, Asha tells her not to cancel as she’ll meet Isla instead. Nina kicks herself.

Aadi reckons they should both make more of an effort to get to know each other’s friends. Bernie counts the day’s takings at the cafe and realises they’re £80 short.

With the Christmas lunch in full swing with Paul, Billy, Bernie Gemma and the quads having a great time, the mood is killed when Chesney and Joseph return home from the hospital with a child protection officer who wants to interview Gemma.

With everyone out of the house Caitlin questions a horrified Gemma and suggests that she may have poisoned Joseph on purpose.

Max returns the watch to Lauren and explains that it’s too generous a gift and he can’t accept it.

Shona listens, mildly suspicious. In the café, Bernie tells Shona about the missing £80 from the till. Shona confronts Lauren and accuses her of stealing the money to buy the watch and suspends her. Lauren’s horrified.

Lauren tells Shona she doesn’t need the job as she has a rich boyfriend. Max and Sabrina head round to Lauren’s flat with cake and cider.

Nina arrives at Speed Daal in time to hear Asha bigging up her to Miles and Isla and explaining that she’s a budding fashion designer.

In the flower shop flat, Billy shows Paul the Christmas jumpers he’s bought, determined they get into a Christmassy mood for lunch at No.5.

A group of bullies speak to Liam in the corridor at school in Corrie
Liam is framed (Picture: ITV)

Poor Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) has once again fallen victim to the vile bullying behaviour of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) in Coronation Street.

Mason framed Liam for the theft of Dylan (Liam McCheyne)’s trainers by hiding them in Liam’s locker just before a locker search.

Gary (Mikey North) realised that Mason must be behind the whole thing as he’s got past form and Gary knows he comes from a bad family. He accosted Mason and told him to stay away from Liam – or he’d regret it.

Unfortunately this intervention didn’t do anything to help Liam, who soon received a message from Mason accusing him of being a grass and threatening him with retribution.

In upcoming episodes Dylan advises Liam to block Mason’s number, but there’s no escape from Mason at school and the bully is soon telling him that if he rats on him again to Gary it’ll be Maria (Samia Longchambon) who suffers.

Even outside of school Mason seems to be everywhere Liam goes and in a terrifying incident he’s cornered near Victoria Court. Mason and his pals – including a reluctant Dylan – surround him, dumping rubbish over his head and calling him a rat.

Scared for his life, in the coming days Liam is frightened of running into Mason again and tries to make out he’s not feeling well so he can stay home from school.

Not knowing the real reason why her son doesn’t want to go to school, Maria knows he isn’t actually sick so she tells him firmly that he has to go to school – unaware that she’s sending him into a terrifying situation.

Will anyone dare stand up to Mason?

Former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan was spotted looking cozy with a mystery man in the early hours of the morning.

The Rosie Webster actress, 33, appeared to be in deep conversation with an unnamed man in Manchester.

Helen was seen rocking a camel coat while her new pal wore a black hoodie.

The soap actress and  ex fiancé Scott Sinclair – who split in 2022 after 13 years together – have Matilda, seven, Delilah, four, and two-year-old Charlie, with the loving mum absolutely doting over each of them.

Helen played Rosie Webster over an 18-year period from 2000 when the character was only 10 years old. She left the soap in 2018 to go on maternity leave but has often spoken of how she’d love to go back when Charlie is a bit older.

Elsewhere, the actress shared some advice for all husbands on her social media in the form of a quote from a self-help specialist.

The message was universal but as it came in the aftermath of her and Scott’s split, it could’ve been read as being pointed in a particular direction.

‘Husbands: When you see your wife in pain or struggling, know this: She isn’t broken. She’s hurting. She doesn’t need your solutions. She doesn’t need you to tell her what she should do,’ read the quote, which is by mental health expert Dr John Delony.

‘She needs you to ask: “What are one or two ways I can best love you right now?” She is the expert on her needs, not you. Love by listening, not telling.’

Helen was seen on our screens earlier this year in I’m a Celebrity… South Africa, after appearing in the original series in 2012.

It was alleged her relationship with Scott ended following Helen’s trip to South Africa, where she filmed the All Stars special.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Helen Flanagan’s reps for comment.

‘Headteacher Orla Crawshaw returns to complete the trifecta of camp female characters who need a permanent role’ (Picture: ITV)

Coronation Street fans were left pretty stunned after seeing Carla Medonça’s new do in the latest episode.

The My Parents Are Aliens actress, 59, was first introduced as Mrs Orla Crawshaw on the ITV soap and was mainly seen overseeing Daniel Osbourne’s (Rob Mallard) lessons following his venture into teaching.

In the latest episode Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) is on the warpath about Dylan Wilson’s missing trainers. Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) made Dylan hand the shoes over after Sean got rid of some disposable vapes that Dylan had been hiding in the house for Mason.

Sean plans to go to the school to report the missing trainers to the head, and a scared Dylan warns Mason.

Mason tells the head that it was Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) who stole Dylan’s trainers and sure enough when she opens Liam’s locker, there they are. Liam immediately realises he’s been stitched up.

But fans of the soap were left doing a double take when deputy headteacher of Weatherfield High Orla Crawshaw (Carla) made an appearance.

One person wrote on Twitter, aka X: ‘Headteacher Orla Crawshaw returns to complete the trifecta of camp female characters who need a permanent role.’

Another added: ‘Ms Crawshaw’s new bob yaaas.’

A third agreed: ‘Great to see Mrs Crawshaw back and loving her new hairdo!’

Carla is most known for playing the role of Sophie Johnson in CITV’s My Parents Are Aliens.

Airing from 1999-2006, the show follows the lives of three orphaned children – Mel, Josh and Lucy and their foster parents Brian (Tony Gardner) and Sophie.

The children soon discover their new parents are aliens and crash landed on Earth after Brian tampered with the spaceship controls.

Mel, Josh and Lucy must do their best to teach Sophie and Brian how to live on Earth as of course, being aliens, they have a very muddled knowledge of human life.

Coronation Street spoilers: Ed’s family ripped apart as he takes shocking action https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/20/coronation-street-spoilers-eds-family-ripped-apart-huge-action-19822530/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/20/coronation-street-spoilers-eds-family-ripped-apart-huge-action-19822530/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2023 23:59:00 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19822530

Ed Bailey’s (Trevor Michael Georges) gambling addiction is about to land him in serious trouble in Coronation Street.

Ed relapsed and started betting again shortly after Leo Thompkins’s (Joe Frost) body was found on a building site. The builder’s actions also nearly put Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) behind bars. After winning on a bet, Ed stashed some cash in a bag that was accidentally picked up by his son.

As Michael headed to Underworld to try and get his job back, he ended up being questioned by DS Swain (Vicky Myers) over his involvement in Stephen Reid’s (Todd Boyce) plan to steal the factory’s entire bank balance.

Michael tried his best to tell Swain that he was innocent but as he opened up the bag, the detective spotted the cash – which certainly didn’t look good.

Coming up, Ed is shocked when Granddad Sarge arrives early for Christmas. When Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) suggests a big family meal out, insisting they’ll pick up the tab, Ed secretly panics.

Having taken out a payday loan, Ed scans the racing pages, hoping to get his hands on more cash.

As the Baileys gather in the Bistro, Ed watches the racing on his phone, while Sarge makes digs about his business brain.

Meanwhile, Dee-Dee (Channqiue Sterling-Brown) quietly explains to Joel (Calum Lill) that Sarge believes they lost their house because of a bad business decision – not her Dad’s gambling.

Watching the racing come to a close, Ed is annoyed to realise he lost.

While Ronnie covers lunch, Ed finds Tony and admits that he can’t pay because he’s a gambling addict and has lost all of his money.

But just as Ronnie approaches, Ed begs Tony to keep quiet.

Is this the moment Ronnie finds out the damage Ed has done to their business and livelihoods?

‘There’s one thing that will always save Ed and that’s the love of his family’, Trevor Michael Georges told us.

‘He loves his family more than his love for gambling and that will always save him. Ed’s a father first, then a husband, then a builder then an addict last. The pain of what he’s done to his family is awful. When your loved ones discover they can’t trust you, and you’re capable of lying and leading them astray, that damage is worse than financial loss.

‘With help and sensible discipline, you can get the financial loss back, but whether you can always get the people you betrayed back, well, that’s the hardest part.’

Asha and Nina hold hands in Coronation Street
Nina and Asha may be drifting (Picture: ITV)

Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) has been left feeling side-lined by girlfriend Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) in recent Coronation Street scenes, and soon she grows worried that she may have pushed her even further away.

Asha has found a new friend in Isla, the woman she has been paired with on her paramedic course.

To Asha, Isla is the coolest person ever, and she sings her praises at every given opportunity.

‘[Asha] is paired with this amazing paramedic who’s been there for years,’ actress Tanisha Gorey explained. ‘She knows what she’s doing, she’s seen it all.

‘I think she’s so overwhelmed and so excited, she sort of idolises her, in a way. Asha wants to be her. Asha wants to know everything she knows, do everything she does sort of thing.’

Unfortunately, Nina isn’t as enthralled by her girlfriend’s new bestie, and it is clear that she is starting to feel quite jealous about all of the time they are spending together, though Asha doesn’t necessarily realise this.

‘She’s jumped into something and it has completely changed her life. She’s working constantly, she’s never really at home,’ Tanisha explained.

‘At first I don’t think she does step aside and think “Is Nina taking this the wrong way?” because she’s just so infatuated with the job itself. I don’t think that even comes across her mind at all.’

In upcoming scenes, Asha suggests to Nina that they have a night out in town and spend some quality time together, but the offer comes too late, as Nina already has other plans.

Nina reveals that she has already organised to meet her friends from college, but as she considers cancelling, Asha tells her not to, enthusing that she will arrange to meet Isla instead.

Realising that she’s missed out on an opportunity to spend time with her girlfriend and has instead pushed her into another meeting with Isla, Nina is gutted.

Later, Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) reflects on the situation and suggests that they make more of an effort to spend time with each other’s friends.

The girls decide to take his suggestion on board, and soon Asha arranges for them to have lunch with Isla and their senior colleague, Miles.

When Nina arrives at Speed Daal, she overhears Asha bigging her up to her friends, making her out to be a successful budding fashion designer.

Will the rest of their meal be a success, or will the cracks in Nina and Asha’s relationship really start to show?

Chesney and Gemma talk in the hospital while Joseph lays in a bed in Corrie
Joseph falls unwell again (Picture: ITV)

Gemma (Dollly-Rose Campbell) has been worried about young Joseph (William Flanagan) recently in Coronation Street. When the lad complained of having a headache Gemma was taking no chances and rushed him off to A&E.

It seemed like she was just being overly cautious, given that her brother Paul (Peter Ash)’s MND symptoms started in a very minor way. The doctor who saw Joseph advised Chesney (Sam Aston) that Gemma needed to relax a bit because there was nothing seriously wrong with their boy.

In upcoming episodes, however, Joseph becomes seriously unwell – and it looks like he’s being deliberately harmed.

When he tells Gemma he doesn’t feel well she decides to heed the doctor’s advice and not get things out of proportion. She packs Joseph off to school, thinking he’ll be fine once he gets there.

Chesney gets a call later from the school asking him to pick his son up as he’s poorly. Once they get home he has a go at Gemma for not taking Joseph’s complaints seriously.

It seems she can’t win and Gemma takes offence at Chesney’s suggestion that she’s not coping. She says she feels like she’s a terrible mother and storms out.

Bernie, Chesney and Gemma speak to a doctor at the hospital in Corrie
The family will be given some shocking news (Picture: ITV)

Joseph is no better the next day, and Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) suggests one of her alternative remedies, saying that a nice cup of lavender tea will put him right. Gemma whips up the brew and makes Joseph drink it – and shortly after that he collapses.

Chesney calls an ambulance and Joseph is taken to hospital. Chesney feels guilty that he didn’t listen to Gemma when she previously said something was badly wrong with Joseph, but then the doctor comes out to talk to him and drops a huge bombshell.

The doctor says Joseph has been poisoned.

What’s even worse is that, because of her previous behaviour, the medical staff suspect Gemma of deliberately poisoning him.

The family sit down for a special ‘Christmas’ lunch so that Bernie – who is facing a jail sentence – can be involved in what’s likely to be Paul’s last Christmas. As the festivities get into full swing Chesney arrives with Joseph and a child protection officer – who wants to talk to Gemma about whether she poisoned Joseph.

Gemma and Chesney are given some shocking news (Picture: ITV)

Well that’s one way to destroy the party mood. How much trouble is Gemma in?

‘Gemma and Chesney are thinking, how’s he been poisoned?’, Sam Aston said.

‘Who’s he been poisoned by? How has it even happened? Then you’ve got the whole situation with the social worker thinking, what’s going on here? Is Gemma fit to be looking after him?

‘So it all starts to spiral out of control a bit quickly. The social worker has a chat with the doctor, whilst Chesney and Gemma are bedside with Joseph. And they’re just questioning Gemma really.’

Reflecting on the prospect of Gemma possibly poisoning Joseph, Sam added: ‘He knows that she’d never do anything to purposely harm him, but he does worry. But you had the situation with Bertie and the tablets, in the bag when she was childminding. Now this.

‘He’s just thinking, is she all right? But he’s got to tread carefully as well because you don’t want to falsely accuse your loved one of something. Because you can dig yourself into a deep hole pretty quick! So it’s a tricky situation.’

‘There’s a lot more to come and it definitely is going to put a strain on their marriage. They’ve got some difficult times ahead.’

Amy in a police interview room in Coronation Street
Amy was questioned by police (Picture: ITV)

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) took drastic action against a sex criminal in last week’s Coronation Street, when she turned the tables on a man called Dan when she saw him spiking a woman’s drink.

After warning the woman off and ensuring her safety, Amy began flirting with Dan. Each time he brought her a drink she ensured that it was him who drank it – and eventually he was totally under the influence of the drug.

Amy called Aadi (Adam Hussain) and together they drove Dan off. Amy’s plan was to leave him tied up somewhere, but Aadi persuaded her that they really needed to get him to hospital.

In the wake of this, Monday (November 20)’s episode saw Amy and Aadi getting a visit from DS Swain (Vicky Myers) – who took them both to the station to answer questions after Dan told the police that Amy drugged him.

DS Swain is well aware of Amy’s traumatic history and that she was raped by Aaron Sandford (James Craven), someone she previously thought of as a good friend. But while she was sympathetic with Amy’s possible reasons for her actions, she was determined to get to the bottom of whether Amy had really set out to drug Dan out of revenge.

Aadi tried to stick to the story that he and Amy had agreed, but under questioning both of them were soon floundering. Amy had asked for Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) to be present in her interview for legal advice and it looked like a good move as she was told she could face up to five years in prison.

Eventually DS Swain told Amy she was free to go and off the record told her that Dan had been identified by other sexual assault victims and was now a person of interest to the police.

Back at home Aadi was still covering for Amy when Tracy (Kate Ford) demanded to know what had gone on. He’s being a good friend to Amy and it seems that both of them want the friendship to be more than that.

But when they leaned in for a kiss, Amy immediately suffered flashbacks to the rape and pulled back, distressed. Steve (Simon Gregson) and Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) rushed in, concerned that Aadi had done something to upset her.

Later, Amy told Nina (Mollie Gallagher) about the kiss and admitted she’d been wanting to kiss Aadi for ages.

‘Why couldn’t I enjoy it like a normal person?’ she wondered.

Meanwhile Dev was counselling his son to remember that Amy had been through a terrible ordeal and she would take time to heal. He said it could take years for her to get over being raped and that Aadi had to respect that and respect her and give her some space.

When the two bumped into each other later, Amy had been ready to tell Aadi that she was happy about the kiss and was ready to give the relationship a try. But Aadi, with Dev’s words in his mind, told her that it was better if they were just friends. He asked her if she agreed, and she said yes.

Elle Mulvaney told us that this storyline marks another complex phase of Amy’s life after the rape.

‘I think as much as Amy has fancied him for quite a long time, the challenging part will be how a rape victim overcomes the fact that she has been raped and how she discovers a way to be intimate with people again,’ she said.

‘I think it’s very difficult for people who’ve had something like this which is so traumatic happen to them, to become fine again and become okay with being intimate with somebody. Even the idea of being in a relationship with somebody again is really, really challenging.’

Julie Hesmondhalgh celebrates 10 years since Coronation Street exit: ‘The most incredible sendoff ever’  https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/20/julie-hesmondhalgh-celebrates-10-years-since-coronation-street-exit-19849821/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/20/julie-hesmondhalgh-celebrates-10-years-since-coronation-street-exit-19849821/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2023 14:12:54 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19849821

Former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh is celebrating 10 years since her iconic stint on the cobbles.

The 53-year-old is best known for playing Hayley, who first appeared on the soap in 1998 in what was only ever meant to be a short-term storyline.

This was all the more remarkable given that Hayley was the first trans character in a UK soap.

In 2013, the character was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. When treatment failed, Hayley decided to end her life on her terms, dying in 2014 in husband Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) arms.

Marking a decade since her soap stint, the Broadchurch actress shared a grainy picture of her head in her hands alongside David (Roy) on set with flowers in the corner.

She penned: ‘Ten years today. My last day on the cobbles and the most incredible send off ever. It has FLOWN by! X❤️’

Fellow celebrities and fans also weighed in on the celebration including Doctor Who screenwriter Russell T Davies writing: ‘Oh amazing ❤️❤️❤️’

Another added: ‘Loving watching Hayley and Roy in Classic Corrie right now, two of the best ever characters in the Street played so beautifully by you and David Neilson.’

A third agreed: Cutting edge transgender storyline was next level then. You portrayed Hayley with dignity and class, when I see Roy, I still see Hayley.

Reflecting on the progress that has been made since making her debut in Weatherfield, Julie previously said: ‘As a cis-gender person, I wouldn’t be able to play that part now.

‘It’s good that I left when I did because I think it would have been a little out of step of the times for me to be playing that part now.

‘There are so many amazing trans actors who are out there doing it now.’

Julie added: ‘I’m very proud of my tiny little part in the story of trans history and trans rights.’

After her exit from Corrie, Julie has gone on to appear in a variety of different TV shows including BBC One’s The Pact, she also portrayed Trish Winterman in ITV’s Broadchurch and played Heather in series 3 of The A Word, which followed an autistic boy called Joe (Max Vento) as he navigated growing up, going to school and dealing with his parents’ separation.

Aadi and Amy kiss in Coronation Street
Aadi and Amy kiss (Picture: ITV)

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) took some risky action in recent Coronation Street episodes as she decided to take the law into her own hands to deal with a man she saw spiking someone’s drink.

The scenes saw Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) receive a message from Amy. When he drove to the club where she was, she was with a man called Dan who could barely stand up. Amy explained she’d taken revenge on Dan for spiking another woman’s drink and got Aadi to help her.

Eventually they took Dan to A&E, but Amy was soon in trouble with the police when the hospital staff found that Dan had overdosed on GHD and could die.

Aadi tried to cover for Amy, but DS Swain (Vicky Myers) was suspicious.

In upcoming episodes there’s a tense wait for Amy as she hopes that Dan won’t be able to remember what happened to him before he passed out. DS Swain continues to question her, warning her that she could be facing five years in prison.

It’s a terrible ordeal for Amy, and Aadi makes it clear he’s ready to support her throughout. And when he leans in for a kiss, she kisses him back.

Suddenly she’s overcome by a wave of panic and pulls back, leaving Aadi feeling awkward and worrying that he’s made a huge mistake.

Amy is, of course, still deeply affected by being raped by her friend Aaron Sandford (James Craven), who was someone she previously liked and trusted. Have Aadi’s actions made her trauma resurface?

Corrie’s boss Iain MacLeod told us that there will be a love story for Amy and Aadi as these events mark a turning point for the characters.

‘This story is a really significant staging post in our ongoing fostering of this closeness between Aadi and Amy,‘ he said. ‘I sort of feel like them being best friends, and having each other’s back, come what may, and this kind of really, really long range love story that we’re hoping to tell with them.’

This doesn’t mean that the rape storyline is about to be a closed chapter, as he explained that the show is keen to acknowledge the fact that it’s something that will always affect Amy.

‘Amy, despite outward appearances, is profoundly affected by what happened as she will be for the rest of her life,’ he told us.

‘We wanted this chapter to be a kind of final catharsis that doesn’t allow her to move on exactly, because I don’t know that you ever can. But that allows her to enter a different chapter of her reaction to what went on.’

Bernie takes to the stand in court in Corrie
The timing is terrible (Picture: ITV)

Recently in Coronation Street, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) found herself getting arrested for handling stolen goods.

The decision to meet up with Big Garth to try and flog the remaining gear came after Bernie learnt it’ll take around 11 weeks for Paul’s (Peter Ash) benefits to come through.

As she chatted with her mate in the precinct, Bernie remained unaware a police officer was taking photographs of them.

Returning home, Bernie’s smile was wiped from her face when she ended up being taken away in a police car.

At first, Bernie was confident and told Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) they didn’t need to worry about her facing any consequences.

This week, however, Bernie headed to court and pleaded guilty, later breaking the news to dying Paul that she may get six months behind bars – which means not being around for her son’s final Christmas.

Coming up, duty solicitor Joel (Calum Lill) tells Bernie that she needs to prepare herself for a custodial sentence.

Facing the prospect of not being around as 2023 ends, Bernie finds Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and says that she might be in prison over the festive period.

But can the family deal with this?

‘She is full of upset and self loathing,’ Jane Hazlegrove confirmed.

‘When they need her the most she’s not going to be there again. She should have that kind of tattooed on her arm as a reminder. Because it’s just another pattern, isn’t it? And it is the truth she has never been needed more and she has let them down.

‘By trying to help them she hasn’t thought through the possible consequences and now they are the ones paying the price of potentially not having her around. She’s in a mess.’

Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) has recently started training as a paramedic in Coronation Street and she’s loving it. It’s opened up a whole new world for her and when she gets home she’s obviously excited to talk about her day with her girlfriend Nina (Mollie Gallagher).

One aspect that Asha has been particularly excited about is her new colleague Isla.

‘She is paired with this amazing paramedic who’s been there for years,’ Tanisha Gorey told us.

‘She knows what she’s doing, she’s seen it all. I think she’s so overwhelmed and so excited, she sort of idolises her, in a way. Asha wants to be her. Asha wants to know everything she knows, do everything she does sort of thing.’

As much as Nina is happy for her girlfriend and wants to support Asha in her new career, she can’t help but notice that Isla’s name keeps coming up again and again – but Asha so far hasn’t noticed the effect this is having on her.

‘I think Asha is quite a caring girlfriend. She’s quite attentive, she’s very much all for Nina,’ Tanisha reflected. ‘But I don’t think she does step aside and think “Is Nina taking this the wrong way?” because she’s just so infatuated with the job itself. I don’t think that even comes across her mind at all.

‘If your partner is coming home and they’re not shutting up about the person they’re working the closest with it would cause a bit of a rift, which is understandable.’

When Asha tells Nina that she’s going to be spending her day off with Isla going through coursework and they’ll have dinner together afterwards, Nina can’t help but be jealous.

Finally she decides she has to say something to Asha about how insecure she’s feeling about the situation. Asha reassures her she has absolutely nothing to worry about and she and Isla are just friends.

Will Nina be content with that? Or could her jealousy drive a wedge between them?

Tanisha cautioned that it could well have an impact on the popular pairing.

‘I think that’s where it can cause a rift,’ she warned.

‘Asha’s like “Why are you causing a problem? I’m just working with this girl.” If Asha can’t see the problem, then they’re both fighting for different things, they’re both arguing about different things in their own heads which is probably going to topple on each other and horribly explode.’

Coronation Street spoilers: Maria in serious danger amid deadly threat https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/18/coronation-street-spoilers-maria-serious-danger-amid-deadly-threat-19820804/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/18/coronation-street-spoilers-maria-serious-danger-amid-deadly-threat-19820804/#respond Sat, 18 Nov 2023 22:00:00 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19820804

Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) recently made a friend in Coronation Street. But when you have friends like Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) you most certainly don’t need enemies. That boy is seriously bad news, and his horrible behaviour is about to get a whole lot worse.

Previously Mason has targeted young Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall), resulting in Liam ending up in hospital. He suffered an asthma attack after Dylan and Mason goaded him into trying a disposable vape. As Liam began to fall ill, Mason legged it and left Dylan to deal with the situation.

Maria (Samia Longchambon) and Gary (Mikey North) were furious when they found out what had happened to Liam, and Gary warned Maria that Mason’s family were notorious in the area and Liam should avoid him.

In upcoming episodes, Sean (Antony Cotton) is on the warpath about Dylan’s missing trainers. Mason made Dylan hand the shoes over after Sean got rid of some disposable vapes that Dylan had been hiding in the house for Mason.

Maria confronts Liam while at the hospital in Corrie

Sean plans to go to the school to report the missing trainers to the head, and a scared Dylan warns Mason.

Mason tells the head that it was Liam who stole Dylan’s trainers and sure enough when she opens Liam’s locker, there they are. Liam immediately realises he’s been stitched up.

Poor Liam then starts to receive a barrage of texts from Mason, warning him of the consequences if he tells Gary who really stole the trainers.

Obviously Mason fancies himself as a hard man, but he’s not hard enough to go up against Gary Windass.

In this new video, we see the moment Mason threatens Liam and says that if Gary gets wind of what’s going on, Maria will suffer.

Liam rushes off, leaving a quiet Dylan to wonder if he’s doing the right thing by sticking with Mason and his so-called friends.

The storyline is set to get very dark indeed as it becomes clear exactly how far Mason is willing to go.

‘He’s a very angry and disturbed soul,’ actor Luca Toolan told us. ‘I would stay away from people like Mason.’

Unfortunately Liam doesn’t have much choice about that and soon finds himself in horrific danger when Mason and his gang corner him in Victoria Court, showering him in rubbish and calling him a rat.

And then Mason pulls out a knife and threatens him.

It’s a terrifying situation for the young boy, but with Mason’s threats about Maria still ringing in his ears, he knows he can’t tell anyone about what’s happening to him.

How will Mason be stopped?

Amy in hot water after rapist kidnap as she is taken in by police in Coronation Street spoiler video https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/18/coronation-street-spoilers-amy-taken-police-rapist-kidnap-19835259/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/18/coronation-street-spoilers-amy-taken-police-rapist-kidnap-19835259/#respond Sat, 18 Nov 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19835259

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) is set to find herself in hot water in upcoming Coronation Street scenes, as she is taken in by police for her role in kidnapping predator Dan.

Recent Corrie scenes saw Amy get her own back against Dan, who she had spotted spiking a woman’s drink.

After eventually managing to convince the woman that Dan was dangerous, Amy began flirting with him, and swapped their drinks over without him looking.

This meant that Dan ended up drinking that one that had been spiked, and had soon overdosed.

Though Amy had planned to tie him up and leave him on the side of the road, Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) convinced her to take him to hospital, where they were soon faced with questions from DS Swain (Vicky Myers).

DS Swain soon sent them home with instructions to hope that Dan told the same story as them when he woke up.

A new spoiler video shows the moment that things start to go south, as DS Swain arrives at No.1.

Prior to her arrival, Amy is in the kitchen with Aadi, discussing the events of the previous evening, and deciding on their final story.

While Aadi admits that he didn’t think they needed a story, having already spoken to police the night before, Amy decides maybe they should just tell the truth, with Aadi insisting that ‘honesty is the best policy’.

Aadi assures Amy that she has done the right thing, as she saved a girl from becoming a potential victim.

As Aadi insists that she deserves a medal, Amy isn’t so sure.

It is then that DS Swain arrives, and they are clearly panicked, especially when she reveals that Dan has woken up and she’d like them to come to the station.

Amy is horrified when she reveals that he has accused her of drugging him, though Aadi is quick to defend her.

But will their stories add up when they are questioned separately?

Liam is confronted by school bullies in Corrie
Liam finds himself trapped (Picture: ITV)

School bully Mason (Luca Toolan) continues to make Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) and Dylan Wilson’s (Liam McCheyne) lives a misery in Coronation Street.

A few weeks ago, Dylan attempted to put distance between him and Mason by starting a paper round. It was a positive way to earn money but Mason just saw it as a chance to wind Dylan up. He grabbed the papers and threw them in a puddle, with the action being enough to lose Dylan his job.

Coming up, Sean (Antony Cotton) quizzes Dylan about his missing trainers.

As Dylan heads off to school, Liam waves to him, but Dylan gives him the cold shoulder and Gary (Mikey North) clocks the unkind behaviour.

In the corridor, Dylan warns Mason of Sean’s intention to report the missing trainers so, taking action, Mason and Conch tell Mrs Crawshaw that Liam stole them!

Mrs Crawshaw opens Liam’s locker, leaving him to realise he’s been stitched up!

The innocent teen then shows Dylan the nasty messages he’s been receiving from Mason and Dylan tells him to block the number.

At school, a furious Mason finds Liam and says that if he rats on him again to Gary then Maria (Samia Longchambon) will suffer.

Back at home, Gary and Maria give Dylan some cash and suggest he goes to the cinema with Liam to bury the hatchet.

On the way, Dylan apologises for the incident at school but when Mason approaches, a frightened Liam does a runner.

As Liam heads into Victoria Court, Dylan, Mason and his other mates corner him, showering Liam in rubbish and calling him a rat.

When Mason starts taking pictures, Liam knocks the phone out of his hand, prompting the bully to pull out a knife.

As things escalate, will anyone save Liam?

Amy, Bernie, Dylan and Mason in Coronation Street
A truly shocking week on the Street (Picture: ITV)

Coronation Street lines up another incredibly dramatic week for the residents of the eponymous street, with brushes with the law, an upsetting bullying showdown and much more on the cards.

Paul Foreman and Gemma Winter make a touching gesture for Bernie, who is facing a prison sentence which means she’ll miss Christmas, while Amy Barlow and Aadi Alahan are questioned by the police.

Elsewhere, Liam Connor’s ordeal at the hands of school bully Mason continues, with things set to spiral out of control.

Fancy a first look at what’s coming up?

We’ve got four little clips to tide you over until our next visit to the cobbles, previewing the above events.

The fallout of this week’s developments, as ever, continue into the next, and with so many questions left unanswered, here are some brand new video spoilers.

Monday November 20

Amy and Aadi come up with a cover story about the events of last night just in case the police are involved.

With no sign of any officers, the pair decide to go out for some lunch, but to their shock DS Swain arrives at the door to reveal that Dan has woken up, he’s made a serious allegation against Amy and therefore Swain needs both Amy and Aadi to accompany her to the station.

Wednesday November 22

Mason bullies Liam, issuing him with a dark threat as he brands him a ‘rat’, ordering him to keep quiet. Liam, petrified, rushes off, leaving Dylan horrified at the lengths Mason has gone to.

Friday November 24

With Bernie set to miss Christmas due to her prison sentence, Paul, Gemma, Joseph and the children decide to bring the big day forward as they sing carols outside her door while dressed for the occasion.

Bernie is overwhelmed and invites them in, touched by the effort they’ve gone to include her.

Coronation Street airs these scenes w/c Monday, November 20 at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Amy looking concerned in Coronation Street
Amy lies to DS Swain (Picture: ITV)

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) has made it her mission to protect other women from predatory men, but recent Coronation Street scenes have seen her take things too far.

After deciding to go home and work on her essay for her degree, Amy bumped into Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) who was walking around without his trainers on.

When Amy suggested he fight back against the person who took them, Dylan refused, stating that some people were always going to be victims.

This sparked something in Amy and, deciding that she didn’t want to be a victim, she headed off to the club.

Almost as soon as she’d arrived, she spotted Dan spiking a drink, which he then handed over to a drunk woman.

Determined to intervene, Amy knocked the drink out of the woman’s hand, before dragging her to the toilets to dry off.

While they were there, Amy informed her of what she had seen Dan doing, though the woman didn’t believe her at first.

After Amy confided in her about her rape ordeal, the woman was grateful that she had stepped in, and soon headed home.

But warning the woman off wasn’t enough for Amy, who was still determined to get her own back. As soon as she had gone, Amy introduced herself to Dan and set her plan into motion.

It wasn’t long before Dan headed to the bar to buy some drinks, and spiked Amy’s in the process.

However, Amy had her wits about her, and was sure to swap the glasses round when Dan wasn’t looking. Soon, Dan was drinking out of the spiked glass, and it didn’t take long for the drugs to take their toll.

With Dan stumbling around the club, Amy called for help from Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) who soon arrived to pick them up.

However, when Aadi got lost trying to find Dan’s house, they ended up on an industrial estate, where Amy put the next part of her plan into action.

Dragging Dan out of the car, she revealed to Aadi that he had been drugging women and deserved to face the consequences.

As Amy tied Dan up and prepared to leave him on the side of the road, Aadi tried to get through to her about what a terrible idea this was, pointing out that she was clearly having a breakdown.

Thankfully, Amy was soon convinced to take Dan to the hospital, where they discovered that he had overdosed.

Together, they came up with a story that Dan had spiked Amy’s drink and picked up the wrong one, so they had brought him to hospital as soon as they realised.

When DS Swain came to question them, this was the story Aadi told, though suspicious DS Swain clearly didn’t believe it.

When Amy insisted that Dan was a rapist and should be arrested immediately, DS Swain reminded her that she had no evidence of this, unless there was something she wasn’t telling her.

Pointing out that Amy had been at the centre of a crime twice in as many days, she told the pair that they needed to hope that Dan could corroborate their story when he woke up.

Will Dan drop them in it when he comes round, and what could this mean for them both?

Suranne Jones finally reunites with Coronation Street cast members https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/17/suranne-jones-finally-reunites-coronation-street-cast-members-19839813/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/11/17/suranne-jones-finally-reunites-coronation-street-cast-members-19839813/#respond Fri, 17 Nov 2023 15:59:54 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19839813

After nearly 25 years, Suranne Jones has finally reunited with her Coronation Street co-stars.

The 45-year-old actress has enjoyed a long television career, getting her first breakthrough role in Coronation Street in 2000.

The Gentleman Jack actress was introduced to the sao as Karen Phillips, a friend of Linda Sykes (Jacqueline Pirie), who was taken on at Underworld as a new machinist – and who quickly proved popular with the men of Weatherfield.

Taking to Instagram, Suranne shared a selfie with previous Corrie stars Sally Lindsay (Shelley Unwin) and Jennifer Boardman (Geena Gregory).

She penned: ‘Karen, Gina and Shelly went on a gals trip… ❤️ @sallylindsay73 @jennifer_boardman Nearly 25 years on and still as daft! #classiccorrie.’

Fans naturally went wild over the snap with one person writing: ‘Isn’t it time for you to do a show together?????’

Another added: ‘Great to the old gang back to take over Underworld.’

A third agreed: ‘Aww love the corrie reference! the early 2000s were a great era.’

Suranne’s character was last seen in Weatherfield on Boxing Day 2004, after Steve ended their marriage and asked her to leave.

Karen was written out of the show after the actress decided she wanted to move on.

‘I just thought, while she’s brilliant and I’m enjoying her, I’ve got to get out,’ she explained. ‘I was living and breathing Karen McDonald.’

In a dramatic showdown, her onscreen character of Karen led Tracey Barlow and Steve to believe their daughter Amy was dead despite her actually being with Roy.

Suranne took on the lead character of Doctor Foster in the acclaimed BBC drama Gentleman Jack.

She has also starred in Strictly Confidential, Harley Street, Scott & Bailey and Save Me – to name a few.

Is Eileen leaving Corrie? (Picture: ITV)

Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) has been a staple figure on Coronation Street since 2000.

During her time on the cobbles she has been at the centre of a number of high profile storylines, including one that saw her marry serial killer Pat Phelan.

Thankfully, life is slightly less chaotic for her now – as unchaotic as life on Coronation Street can be, anyway.

In more recent times, she told partner George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) that she would make a terrible undertaker as she lacks empathy and compassion, after he asked her to replace Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who had left the business.

However, with Eileen having not appeared on screens since August, viewers have been left wondering if actress Sue Cleaver has left the show.

Is Eileen Grimshaw leaving Coronation Street?

While Eileen is not set to permanently leave Coronation Street, she will likely be missing on our screens over the coming weeks.

Actress Sue Cleaver is set to take a break from her role as Eileen Grimshaw to embark on a new project, but fear not, as Eileen will be coming back.

Sue has been cast in the upcoming tour of Sister Act: The Musical, where she will be taking on the role of Mother Superior at select venues.

Talking about her new role, Sue said: ‘I’m thrilled to be stepping into the habit and joining the incredible company of Sister Act on tour.

‘It’s been over 30 years since I’ve been on stage, but theatre has always been my first love. A chance to take on a role like this feels like heaven.’

Sister Act: The Musical is based on the film starring Whoopi Goldberg. It follows musician Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder.

While under protective custody, Deloris joins a convent and decides to help her fellow sisters find their voices.

‘This is a great experience for all the family. It’s very accessible, it’s fun, it’s uplifting. Yeah, everyone needs a bit of Sister Act in their lives,’ Sue said.

It is not yet known when Eileen will be back on screens, but hopefully we won’t be waiting too long.
