A Russian mum-of-three with minimal political experience admits she is ‘afraid’ as she launches a campaign to oust Vladimir Putin.

Ekaterina Duntsova, 40, is gaining momentum for her nomination to fight in the 2024 presidential election.

The Siberian-born lawyer and journalist wants to kick out the president after years in power as elections loom in Russia next year.

‘Why did I make this decision? I love our country, I want Russia to be a thriving democratic and peaceful state. But right now our country is moving in a completely different direction,’ said she said.

‘I understand that many right now want to wait it out…but we need to act…

‘Let’s at least try! Let’s try to win this “election”!’

Ekaterina’s policies include a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, democratic reforms and the release of political prisoners.

She believes voters are ready to rebel against the current autocracy.

She claims that her age, compared to Putin, 71, along with her gender and lack of political experience may count in her favour.

But Ekaterina is also aware that presidential elections are routinely rigged so the dictator virtually cannot lose.

She has even been forced to deny that she is an officially sanctioned ‘spoiler candidate’.

This is a tactic used by the Kremlin to attract votes from, for example, liberally minded voters to nominees who will be prevented from succeeding.

‘I am definitely not a spoiler,’ she said.

‘This was my decision and it will be executed up to the point of my abilities.’

The most obvious pro-democracy, anti-war candidates who have exposed ‘endemic corruption’ under Putin are jailed on bogus convictions – like opposition leader Alexei Navalny – or exiled.

Putin, who has held continuous positions of the highest authority since 1999, has been subject to dozens of rumours about his health in recent years.

The most recent claims include that he had suffered heart problems and was employing body doubles to appear in the public eye.

Announcing her candidacy, Ekaterina said: ‘The friends with whom I discussed my decision asked me: “Do you seriously believe that in modern Russia something can be changed through these elections?

‘”Do you believe that you will be admitted and registered as a candidate?”

‘”Aren’t you afraid that you will be imprisoned?”

‘Of course, I have no illusions about these “elections”, and, like any normal person, I am afraid.

‘But I have hope that Russia can be changed democratically.’

A sign of Kremlin concern is that she was already ordered to appear before prosecutors and underwent an interrogation on her views on Putin’s war against Ukraine.

She cited her constitutional right not to answer but signed a statement verifying she is the owner of her social media account.

She said she is backed by her three children, Maria, 19, Sophia, 16, and Sylvester, 10, who all live with her in Rzhev, a backwater town in Tver region on the rail line between Moscow and Latvian capital Riga.

She was formerly on the local council in her town, and coordinates a group searching for missing children and adults.

She is gathering the 300,000 signatures she needs to register her candidacy and has had expressions of support from all around Russia.

Ekaterina must also hold a meeting of 500 close supporters – which she vows to do in Moscow.

Political scientist Ekaterina Schulmann said: ‘This is a candidate with a clear anti-war stance.

‘Without reservations, without ambiguities… and a woman, which, as we know from numerous sociological results, rather impresses than disgusts the voter…

‘Some kind of spontaneous political activity is happening, it has not yet died in Russia, despite all the unfavourable conditions.’

William Gallas has urged Chelsea to be patient with summer signing Christopher Nkunku as he nears his long-awaited return from injury.

Nkunku played a prominent role in the Blues’ pre-season campaign before picking up a serious knee injury on the eve of the Premier League’s opening games.

The Frenchman, who joined from German side RB Leipzig in a deal worth £52m, has been working hard behind the scenes on his rehab and is now nearing full fitness.

Fans are desperate to see Nkunku in action following his impressive stint at Leipzig, where he registered 70 goals and 56 assists across 172 games.

Gallas has backed the 25-year-old to be a success at Stamford Bridge but has urged the club to not rush his return and risk a longer-term injury.

‘Everyone needs to be patient with Christopher Nkunku,’ the former Chelsea centre-back told Genting Casino. ‘We need to wait until he is completely ready to play before he can start to have an impact for Chelsea because he has been injured for such a long time.

‘When you’re out for four months, you need to manage your fitness very carefully. I think that Nkunku is a great player and he will bring a lot of quality to this Chelsea team.

‘He will bring a different attacking option to Pochettino, but we shouldn’t expect him to be the main man straight away.

‘He will need to be managed perfectly after being out for such a long time. The intensity of the games in the Premier League is so high, so it would be a massive risk if he came back too quickly.

‘Don’t push him too much. When he is ready, he can make the difference for Chelsea.’

Nkunku could be in line for his maiden league appearance for Chelsea when they travel to face Newcastle on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side sit four points behind the Magpies and a further six off the top four, but could extend their unbeaten streak to three league games after impressive performances against Tottenham and Manchester City before the international break.

Heart-melting footage has revealed how an adorable puppy learned how to walk and wag his tail again after becoming paraplegic in a freak accident.

Sussex spaniel Elton has proved new dogs can learn old tricks by making a remarkable recovery after he fell off a 50cm wall and landed on his back.

Eleven-week-old Elton was rushed to the vets who told distraught owner, Philippa Gascoyne, that he had severely bruised his spinal cord and may never walk again.

But the plucky puppy defied expectations and is now back on his paws again.

Elton was admitted to Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service in Solihull, West Midlands, for intensive physiotherapy sessions.

He underwent daily physiotherapy sessions and laser therapy to stimulate the muscles in his back and tail.

After just two weeks, he was well enough to return home to Philippa – and take on a starring role in Channel 5 show, The Dog Hospital, alongside master dog trainer, Graeme Hall, known as the ‘Dogfather’.

Recalling the moment he plunged off the wall, Philippa, from Ashbourne in Derbyshire, said: ‘It was awful, especially as I was only two metres from him when it happened.

‘Elton just jumped off a small wall that borders the garden path and you can’t understand how such a small fall can cause such horrific injuries.

‘It destroyed me inside to know I had not been able to prevent it happening.

‘He was squealing on the floor. I tried to get him to stand up but there was nothing in his back legs, no movement at all and not even a wag of his tail.’

Veterinary physiotherapist Holly Finelli said: ‘Elton was completely paraplegic when he came to us.

‘He had no movement of his back legs or tail and we were not sure whether he would regain movement again.

The fact he was a such a young puppy added to the challenge as he was very playful and couldn’t concentrate on a particular activity for long.

‘We soon found food was the way to his heart! This enabled a slightly longer concentration time to perform the physiotherapy.’

Elton has now regained full mobility and was discharged from the care of Willows after six months.

Philippa added: ‘To have him back on his legs means more than you can imagine. I’m so happy and I can’t thank Holly and Willows enough.’

Sharon Osbourne took the reigns at last night’s Rolling Stone UK Awards for Ozzy Osbourne after he was honoured with the icon award.

The likes of The Last Dinner Party, Daniel Kaluuya, Jessie Ware and The Chemical Brothers also all went home winners from the London awards showheld at The Roundhouse, in collaboration with Rémy Martin.

Ozzy – the publication’s latest cover star and Black Sabbath legend – now 74, couldn’t be at the event due to something ‘cropping up’, but his wife of 40 years Sharon, 71, accepted the accolade in his place.

As she did, Sharon gave an emotional speech and explained how it was ‘f**ked up’ the rock n’ roll legend couldn’t be there to pick up the award himself.

Since a fall in 2019, Ozzy has undergone four operations on his back. He’s been pictured using a wheelchair and walkers since, and declared in September he would only endure one more surgery, and that was it – regardless of the outcome.

‘You’ve got me instead of the legend,’ she began, then nodding to his recent cover star interview with the publication, continued: ‘Rolling Stone UK you have no idea what it means as an artist to be on the cover of Rolling Stone.

‘I can remember when Ozzy first got the cover, he said: “Does this mean I’ve made it now?” And I’m like, yeah, I think so.’

Talking of his love for music, Sharon declared, ‘It’s all Ozzy’s ever known his entire life,’ before crumbling into tears.

Composing herself, Sharon praised Yungblud who presented the award, confessing that when Ozzy met the young rocker, he felt as if he was meeting himself.

‘I’m just so f**ked up that he’s not here tonight, it means so much and he’s worked so hard his entire life to give back,’ she continued, full of emotion.

Focusing on her husband, she explained how the worst thing you can do to Ozzy was confide him in a music studio, but even so, he always emerged with a banger.

‘Now it’s 55 years he’s been making music,’ she said, ‘and a 55 year career where he’s never had a dud album.’

Having sold over 100million albums, Ozzy forged an almighty solo career after being booted out of Black Sabbath for substance use in 1979.

‘I am just so proud of him as a man, as a musician,’ she continued. ‘It’s been my honour to be on his coattails, I adore him and you’ve just got no idea what this means to him right now,’ Sharon confessed, breaking into tears again, and then joking she knew she was going to ‘f**k this up’.

Summarising Ozzy’s legacy, Sharon said he is what ‘rock n’ roll is all about’.

‘He’s wild, he’s fabulous, he’s talented, he’s like a f**king uncaged animal and I adore him, and I know you all do, and just thank you, thank you, so much,’ she concluded.

In a video message, Ozzy said: ‘I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there tonight, only something cropped up and I just couldn’t make the flight. My wife’s gonna be there on my behalf and she’s great.

‘The only one bit of advice is keep her away from the bar because she gets very rowdy when she has a few drinks!

‘My success is just a dream come true. I’d like to thank Rolling Stone UK and all the readers for this wonderful award. This award means everything to me. I’m just so sad.’

‘It’s really knocked me about,’ Ozzy told Rolling Stone UK in their cover star interview chatting about his operations in recent years.

‘The second surgery went drastically wrong and virtually left me crippled. I thought I’d be up and running after the second and third, but with the last one they put a f**king rod in my spine.

‘They found a tumour in one of the vertebrae, so they had to dig all that out too. It’s pretty rough, man, and my balance is all f**ked up.’

Sharon added: ‘It’s been nearly five years of heartache, and at times I’ve just felt so helpless and so bad for Ozzy, to see him going through the pain.’

Mikel Arteta insists he ‘really wants’ Takehiro Tomiyasu to stay at Arsenal, despite interest from Bayern Munich.

The Japan international has been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena, with Thomas Tuchel keen to bolster his defence.

Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, and has become a fans’ favourite at the Emirates.

However, he’s yet to establish himself in the starting XI and still plays a rotational role under Arteta.

But, unsurprisingly, the Spaniard is fond of the defender’s versatility and wants him to remain at the club.

‘I really want him to stay,’ said Arteta.

‘I value the player a lot. He’s loved and respected by everybody at the club.

”He’s at the level we need to make an impact on the team. He’s going to be with us.’

Countess Diamond has built hundreds of thousands of followers on OnlyFans, flitting between clients to help them express all manner of fetish or kink-based desires.

The Bristolian dominatrix is also fighting for the rights of sex workers.

She’ll soon be flying out to Brussels to give a parliamentary talk on what needs to change, such as a the creation of a ‘fairtrade alliance’ for porn workers to ensure the more murky sides of the industry see light.

Countess, speaking on Metro.co.uk’s Smut Drop podcast, says: ‘As soon as we [sex workers] say that we want to be treated equally, the rest of the world goes “well, we have due diligence, we have regulation, we have authorities, we have boards.” 

‘At the moment we don’t really have that in the porn industry. We are governed by each other and it’s word-of-mouth.’

35-year-old Countess also tells host Miranda Kane how she wants to see the porn industry regulated in the future, suggesting that there could be some sort of logo or symbol given to venues or studios to show they had been safely vetted for sex workers.

However, Countess is aware her ideas may not go down well with everyone.

‘They’ll think I’m trying to santatise the industry’, she admits.

‘If that is a byproduct then I’m really sorry, but I feel like the only way we can really get accepted into society is to be as legitimate as the other industries.’

Another one of Countess’ ideas to shake up the industry is for successful porn stars to give back to those who may be struggling at the beginning of a, potentially turbulent, sex work career. 

The 35-year-old explains: ‘I’m going to make sure they’re protecting the other people in this industry. We have to be in this together. 

‘There’s findoms [fetish lifestyle activity in which a submissive is required to give gifts or money to a dominant] who claim to make £5,000 a day. Making all this money is fabulous but you need to be paying a bit of that back into the system which sustains your living. If you’re not doing that, you’re a d*** of a person.’

During her chat with Miranda, Countess also reflects on her own seven year career in the industry.

She recalls how when she started on OnlyFans as it launched in 2016, it was a ‘wild west’ of content which has since been clamped down on. Something she is adamant is best for the community.

Now, Countess says, she thrives on the ‘powerful’ connection she has during the intensity with her clients.

‘I’ve always been a little bit naughty, a bit sneaky,’ she says. ‘But I was drawn more initially to fetish-wear more than kink. I was obsessed with latex and the feel of it. It was all about aesthetics to begin with then I realised “oh hang on there’s also this whole heap of fun you can have that I don’t know about, I’m in.”

‘I found myself in a career where I can choose what to do and when to do it. I’ve been doing this for seven years now and I can’t wait for what the future holds.’

Newcastle United will be able to call upon the services of Kieran Trippier for Saturday’s Premier League match against Chelsea.

The Magpies’ right-back played the full 90 minutes of England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Malta a week ago, but withdrew from the squad due to a ‘personal matter’ ahead of the 1-1 draw against North Macedonia.

Eddie Howe, however, confirmed the experienced defender would be available for selection, but was more evasive when asked for an update on striker Alexander Isak who has missed the last five games with a hamstring injury.

Newcastle would welcome the return of the Sweden international, particularly given the absence of Callum Wilson, who his likely to be out until the New Year.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game, Howe said: ‘Fabian [Schär] was more precautionary rather than any injury, we saw him yesterday – he seemed good.

‘Miggy [Miguel Almiron] has worked really well since his hamstring. Kieran [Trippier] is fine, he has trained with us since his return from England. We will check on Sean [Longstaff] before tomorrow.

On Isak, he added: ‘I don’t want to give too much away.’

Having started the season impressively, Newcastle’s ambitions took a double blow prior to the latest international break with defeats against Borussia Dortmund and Bournemouth representing significant setbacks.

A return to St James’ Park, however, which has been something of a fortress since Howe’s appointment two years ago, will prompt a revival, according to Newcastle’s manager.

‘Our home form has been very strong – we have had some good results against some top sides.

‘You look back at our last league game here against Arsenal, it was a very strong performance, full of discipline and quality. Another performance and atmosphere like that would be more than welcome. There is a determination to put the Bournemouth result to bed.’

Mikel Arteta was hopeful, but non-committal, on the fitness of Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Ben White ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Brentford on Saturday.

The Gunners boss was speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the journey across London for the 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday against the Bees.

He sounded most hopeful of a return for Jesus, who played for Brazil over the international break, starting in the 1-0 defeat to Argentina, so is fit but may not be in peak condition after an intense match on Wednesday and a long journey.

‘He is available,’ said Arteta. ‘He played 96/97 minutes in a really competitive match. He had a long flight. I have to see the condition of every single player to make the final call in the line-up.’

Odegaard has been out of action due to a concussion issue, while White has had a muscle problem and Arteta was leaving a decision on their fitness down to the final training session of the week on Friday afternoon.

On Odegaard he said: ‘We have another training session today but he’s been progressing well. Hopefully he will be available.’

Asked whether the Norwegian had suffered a concussion, he said: ‘Yes. We didn’t know how many days, depends on certain things. In the end he got more delayed than we wanted, but we have to protect the player.’

On White, he added: ‘Hopefully if he’s able to train today he’ll be eligible to play, but it’s a question mark to be resolved in the next few hours.’

Due to David Raya being on loan from Brentford, the Spanish goalkeeper is unavailable to play this weekend and Arteta confirmed that Aaron Ramsdale will start in his place.

Meanwhile, Fabio Vieira is suspended and Thomas Partey remains injured and is not available.

Lauren Goodger appears to be on amicable terms with her ex-boyfriend Charles Drury as they were seen together for the first time since he was charged with domestic assault. 

The former couple, who dated for two years before splitting in January 2022, spent time together with their two-year-old daughter Larose on Thursday, with the family enjoying a day out at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex. 

Former Towie star Lauren, 37, took charge of pushing the pram which was filled with shopping bags and had a balloon tied to the handle, while both she and Charles, 26, held Larose’s hands as the toddler walked in the middle of her parents. 

Charles, a builder, was in good spirits as he was seen smiling while walking his daughter along, and at one point was seen talking to Lauren. 

It’s the first time the two have been pictured together since Charles was charged with assault and coercive control in August 2022, following an incident at the funeral of their second daughter Lorena, who died shortly after birth in July that year. 

The charges relate to an incident where police were called to Upminster where a woman aged in her 30s was treated for facial injuries. At the time, it was reported that Lauren was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.

In July 2023, Charles appeared in court accused of assaulting Lauren causing actual bodily harm in the hours after Lorena’s funeral. He was also charged with engaging in ‘controlling or coercive behaviour’ against the reality star between August 1 2020 and August 5 2022.

During the preliminary hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Drury pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the indictment, he ‘engaged in behaviour towards Lauren Goodger that was controlling or coercive which had a serious effect’ on her. 

It alleges he ’caused Lauren Goodger to fear, on at least two occasions, that violence will be used against’ her, ‘at a time when he knew or ought to have known that the behaviour’ would have a ‘serious effect’ on her.

The second charge states that he ‘assaulted Lauren Goodger thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm’ on August 4 2022.

A second preliminary trial will take place in the same court on February 12, 2024, before a full trial listed for five days begins on March 18 of the same year.

He has been released on unconditional bail until that time. 

Lauren and Charles began dating in October 2020 and welcomed their baby girl Larose in July 2021. 

However, their relationship came to an end in January 2022 after it emerged that Charles had a brief romance with Amy Gilbert during his break from Lauren, but he ended it and got back together with the mother of his child. They split when Charles admitted to the relationship. 

Regarding the charges against her ex, Lauren’s rep previously told Metro.co.uk: ‘Lauren has never commented on this police investigation and will not be commenting on this story.’

You might think you need to take out a second mortgage if you want to spend a day in London’s fancy old Knightsbridge quarter – but if you’re super-savvy with your cash, turns out you can have a great day living it up like a local.

So if it’s a place you’ve either avoided because you thought it was only for people who drive supercars and drip with jewellery, then think again.

Not only can you pop into Harrods for lunch and still come out with change from a tenner (thanks to their £7 sandwiches from the Roast and Bake takeaway), but there are so many hidden hot spots to enjoy without breaking the bank. 

Here’s how I did it…

Walk it baby

The best way to explore Knightsbridge is to first take a detour away from the iconic Brompton Road and explore the side streets.

Of course, knowing where to start is always a good thing, which is why the Knightsbridge partnership has just launched an interactive map which gives a tour of neighbourhood and must see-highlights, from the beautiful Mandarin Oriental and Bulgari hotels, to tourist must-sees like Wellington Arch, Jane Austen’s blue plaque and the historical Brompton Oratory.

Another gem to discover off the beaten track is the The Map House, which offers a beautifully presented history and geography lesson on London and beyond, through their 10,000-odd maps. Visitors are more than welcome to browse rather than buy, too.

Meanwhile, if you need a quick coffee-stop but don’t want to pay a fortune for a flat white, the Co. London is a great side street shout, with a lattes coming in at £3.50.

It’s also worth considering that if there’s a group of you going and you want to do some touristing without the usual clichés, then hiring a Blue Badge Tourist Guide could be an option. Sophie Campbell really knows her stuff – from sharing stories of how yesterday’s hay stables became today’s must have loft apartments, to the spooky tale behind the Grenadier pub’s ceiling covered in bank notes. Get a group of 10 of you together and a half day – 4 hours walk – costs around £28 each. 

Clothes shopping in Harrods – but not as you know it

While it’s all great and lovely if you can afford the likes of Christian Louboutin and Alexander McQueen, but also hidden away on the fourth floor of London’s most glitzy deparment store is the most amazing budget-friendly pop up.

Called My Wardrobe HQ, there are rails of outfit to rent – from as little as £7, yes, really. And it’s not cut-price brands on offer either. You can rent a Victoria Beckham dress for as little as £10 a day, while there’s plenty to choose from with designers Needle & Thread, Ganni and Isabel Marant to Vampire’s Wife and Zimmerman. Meanwhile, if you head to their website you can even find a £10k Burberry coat on their loan list – although that comes in at £147 a day.

Away from Harrods, if you’re a bit of a budget fashion hound, try The Octavia Foundation’s flagship preloved store on the Brompton Road, which sometimes has high-quality donated goods, including designer and vintage pieces – so well worth a rummage.

Meanwhile, also worth a look is the Pandora Dress Agency. Established in 1947, it offers second hand designer clothes and while most are still eye-wateringly expensive, if you want to splurge/invest on some vintage goodies, they often have an amazing sale.  

Go green

If you’re heading Knightsbridge way it would be a crime not to explore at least some of the 350 acres of the historic Grade I-listed Hyde Park.

One of the eight Royal Parks and once Henry VIII’s private hunting grounds, it’s home to the most stunning landscape alongside a largescale bronze Pan Statue, the famous Speaker’s Corner – andcurrently Winter Wonderland. It also holds the brilliant Serpentine Lake (open Wednesday to Sunday between November and March), where you can hire a pedalo from £6.60 for an adult.

Fine dining on a budget

Sat at the Wellington Arch end of Knightsbridge is the glorious Lanesborough Hotel, famed for being a favourite of the stars from Madonna to Mariah Carey. It’s also the setting for the Lanesborough Grill restaurant. 

Here, if you go a la carte, a plate of (very delicious) Grilled aged English sirloin, bone marrow and oxtail can set you back £52 alone. However, opt for the two course festive set menu and it comes in for almost the same price at £55per person.

Their 2024 set menu comes in even cheaper, with two courses for £39 per person and three courses for £49.50 pp – which means you get all the fanciness and food to-die-for, but at a fraction of the price.

It’s also worth noting that no matter what your budget, the staff treat every customer like an A-lister, replacing napkins when used and topping up glasses without ever needing to be asked. (And the cheese trolley is seriously good!)

For an end of the day drink

Okay, so there’s three ways you can do this. If you want to spoil yourself after a long day of money saving, head to Harrod’s swanky Baccarat bar in the basement of the store. Here the cocktails are next level – but also a bit pricey. For example, the tequila-based Cool Blues really does hit the spot… and the wallet, at £26 a pop.

More mid-price cocktails can be found if you head to Harvey Nichol”s Fifth Floor Bar at the top of the shop, where another tequila based offering, the Tokyo Margariti, will set you back £15. (Although this place doesn’t quite have the exclusive feel of the Bacarrat, the bar has a fun, buzzy vibe and also runs a weekend cocktail masterclass which includes breakfast, lunch, and cocktails for £70 per person – and looked great fun).

However, if you’re still determined to stick to the budget, then The Paxtons Head in the heart of Knightsbridge, is just as good a place as any for a drink.

While this 1900s boozer has a great selection of wine, beer and soft drinks (as well as mirrors with a great story behind them), it doesn’t have such an eclectic mix of cocktails on offer. Although you can get a Mojito Spritzer for under a tenner, so still does the job!

The UK is set to see its coldest night of the year this week, with some areas dipping as low as -5°C in an arctic blast.

The Met Office temperatures will drop to -5°C in Scotland and -4°C in the midlands on Saturday night, with day time figures to say in the single digits.

The south coast will also see low temperatures, with some areas reaching lows of -3°C.

They added a widespread frost is likely on Friday and Saturday as arctic air sweeps across the country.

‘Nagging winds’ will hit the North East of the UK, which are forecast to whip up high waves and pose challenged to lorries over the weekend.

A yellow warning has been posted for the Shetland archipelago, where gusts could reach 60mph between 10pm and 6am over the next 24 hours.

A Met Office spokesman said the cold and variable weather is to be expected at this time of year, though the UK has historically had the first frosts in October.

He said: ‘We can see there’s big swings in temperatures, all it takes is a quick change from a southern wind into a north wind to have that change.

‘It’s not unusual to see these changes.’

The Met Office said sleet and snow may fall in the north of Scotland and on peaks above 400 metres (1,312ft) high.

But Saturday is set to be dry – although with a ‘cold feeling’.

The Met Office said: ‘After a cold frosty start, it will be a mainly dry day with light winds and plenty of sunny spells.’

On Sunday, temperatures are set to begin to rise again with some showers possible.

‘A frosty start, then turning cloudier and less cold on Sunday with some rain possible,’ forecasters said.

I’m A Celebrity star Frankie Dettori had lens implants on his eyes before heading into the jungle.

The 52-year-old jockey and former pro boxer Tony Bellew joined the other campmates – including the likes of This Morning’s Josie Gibson, YouTuper Nella Rose and First Dates star Fred Sirieix – on Thursday’s episode.

Before heading into camp, Frankie revealed he underwent a ‘simple procedure’ on his eyesight because he couldn’t ‘read without glasses’ anymore.

‘I’ve had some lenses put inside. It was a simple procedure. Obviously, you know time heals things,’ he told the Mirror.

‘The bright light really affected me. Especially in the mornings when my eyes were still tender.’

However, he insisted it’s the ‘best thing’ he could have done, and it’s already having a profound impact on his day to day life.

He added: ‘But, it’s the best thing I’ve done actually. I can read without glasses and can see long it’s great. I’m glad I did it.’

The procedure – which is known as refractive lens exchange (RLE) – sees the actual lens removed from just behind the front of the eye and replaced with a man-made version.

Meanwhile, Frankie revealed his five children have begged him not to ’embarrass them’ in the jungle.

‘I got the same message from everyone “dad don’t be embarrassing”. I said I can’t promise that,”‘ he quipped. ‘I don’t know what that means but all five of them said, “dad don’t be embarrassing!” ‘

And he has insisted he isn’t going on I’m A Celebrity for the money, as he knows his kids will all want ‘their slice’ of the payday.

‘When you have five children, all the fun is taken out of it! I’m sure they’ll want their slice,’ he teased.

‘I’ll be honest here, it’s not about the money, I was doing it, you know because I’ve been asked so many times to do it, I thought if I let this opportunity go this time then perhaps when I’m retired and a nobody, then I might not get another chance.’

Strictly Come Dancing star Carlos Gu has been pictured sobbing in the back of a taxi after leaving rehearsals.

The pro dancer, 30, is partnered with TV presenter Angela Scanlon, 39, with the pair leaving Saturday’s Blackpool special with 38 points, just one point behind Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin, and Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola.

However, after rehearsals for this week’s live show, Carlos didn’t appear too happy, as he was pictured with tears in his eyes.

Sat beside Angela in the back of a taxi in London, Carlos hid his face behind his pink hoodie, and wiped his eyes.

It’s unclear whether they were tears of joy, though Angela didn’t appear too concerned as she sat beside him.

This comes after Carlos burst into tears during Strictly Come Dancing week nine, bursting with pride over their performance.

‘She’s been down for quite a few weeks, and hearing that, I’m just really happy,’ he told Claudia Winkleman, of the judges’ comments.

‘It’s happiness!’ he confirmed.

The pair have had a wild journey on Strictly, with Angela sharing candid updates to social media during rehearsals, including, how she cured her blistered feet with bleach!

Earlier on in the series, Angela found herself in controversy after being reported to the police of a video where she hung out of a car window and danced as the vehicle moved, before later apologising for the ‘incredibly dangerous’ incident.

Since then, Angela and Carlos have managed to save themselves from a new ‘curse’ – the dreaded Samba, and have survived in the competition, becoming one of the six remaining couples returning to the ballroom on Saturday.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

I am perceived as a woman everywhere I go and by everyone I meet in real life.

Whether that’s by strangers on the street, the doctor, going through security at the airport, in clothing shops, grocery stores, or on the train. It’s especially so when I’m catcalled on the street by men, or sexually harassed at concerts or other public events.

So it’s laughable to me when people – almost exclusively keyboard warriors online – say that ‘you can always tell’ when someone is transgender, which is usually meant as an insult.

But often, that’s just not always the case, and it leans heavily on stereotypes about people’s looks and bodies. In fact, the idea that you can ‘always tell’ is rooted in transphobia, and it needs to be called out as such.

As a very public trans person, I quite regularly share positive experiences I’ve had and how my friends, family, and the people around me support me for who I am.

I also share thoughts about trans rights at large, as well as positive stories about the solidarity between inclusive organisations and women’s organisations in Iceland – where I’m from. 

As a result, I get my share of negative comments and abuse on social media. 

For the most part, it’s always the same things – people belittling my identity, discrediting my experiences of discrimination and prejudice, or even threatening me. While it might’ve once affected me and my mental health, I now just feel pity for those who do it.

But now, it feels like there’s an explosion of the tired ‘you can always tell’ jibes.

What it means, in short, is that these online trolls are convinced you can ‘always tell’ someone is trans by the way they look – that people are either too tall or too short, their hands are too big, or too small, or that their pelvic bone structure or Adam’s apple is prominent.

Obviously both trans people and cis people come in all shapes and sizes, so many of these ‘standards’ are quite arbitrary and end up including plenty of people who aren’t trans under the criteria. 

It seems to me that they are so consumed by their hatred and prejudice for trans people that they cannot fathom other people supporting and loving us

So whenever I, or other trans people, share positive stories of acceptance or experiences where it was obvious people don’t know we were trans, the trolls start commenting that that’s not possible because you can ‘always tell’.

On the few occasions that I do engage with these people, I just reiterate my point and tell them that their ‘opinion’ of a real life situation they have no insight into is irrelevant. I know my lived experience, and no amount of online abuse or theorising is going to change that.

Alongside this, apparently loved ones are ‘just being nice’ to trans people when they treat us with respect and use our correct pronouns.

According to these trolls, my ‘family is lying’ to me to ‘keep the peace’, and that everyone always knows I’m trans wherever I go – it’s only because of ‘make-up and filters’ that I can ‘pass as a woman’, and that I’d never leave the house with no make-up and joggers.

None of that is true, and I marvel at people’s confidence to make things up in order to try and hurt me. My family fully supports me, and my wardrobe is probably 90% made up of comfortable clothes and jumpsuits. In fact, I hate wearing make-up and certainly don’t use filters that change my physical appearance online. I have no need for it.

Thankfully, I’ve developed a tough exterior and I am able to brush it off. But this narrative still seems to permeate into just about every discussion about trans lives and their lived experiences.

In my experience, those that resort to this sort of behaviour are people who are usually deeply transphobic and hold very hostile views towards people like me. It puzzles me what they get out of it, but I can’t help but feel these people must be so deeply sad and consumed by their bigotry that they don’t see how ridiculous they are.

My family and friends fully support who I am, and couldn’t be more delighted to call me their friend, sister, daughter, auntie and niece. 

To them, it couldn’t be more natural because they see that this is who I’ve always been, and how much happier I am now that I don’t have to suppress who I am.

So some random person online saying I ‘shouldn’t be allowed’ couldn’t mean less to me, as it’s my parents’ opinion that is the only one that matters. I am their daughter, and no one will take that away from us – regardless of what people think.

I often wonder what has driven these people to a place in their life where they spend their time online abusing complete strangers, as well as obsessively stalking them on social media.

It seems to me that they are so consumed by their hatred and prejudice for trans people that they cannot fathom other people supporting and loving us. So they come up with all sorts of things to say to try and cling onto their misguided views in their online echo chambers.

It truly is a tragic state of being, and I have never been in such a miserable place in my life that I’ve felt the need to try and hurt other people. I truly hope they address whatever is causing them to behave in this way, because it’s so obvious to me that they are not happy in their lives. 

This idea that you can ‘always tell’ is inherently built on binary stereotypes about people’s bodies and expression, that doesn’t only affect trans people, but anyone that doesn’t fit into these arbitrary standards.

It means that anyone can become a target of abuse as a result, and leads us down a dangerous road. I personally know many butch lesbians that regularly get accosted by people who think they are trans, simply because they don’t look like a ‘typical woman’.

It’s harmful to all of us, and the clear hyper focus towards trans women in relation to it is quite frankly misogyny and patriarchy at its core, and anyone calling themselves a feminist or someone fighting for equality should denounce such ideologies.

But the question is also: So what? So what if you could tell? Trans people still deserve respect and safety regardless, and your unwanted and unsolicited opinions about their expressions are unwanted, rude and downright creepy.

My suggestion is therefore that people get some real hobbies, and leave trans people alone. 

The reality is that trans people will continue existing and living their lives as themselves. 

And no matter how much abuse they hurl at me, I will continue to live my life to the fullest – safe and supported by all my family and friends and society at large.

And nothing they say can ever change that.

Kim Jong-un celebrated in style with his daughter at a banquet following a successful spy satellite launch.

The trench coat wearing dictator was joined by his daughter who donned a space agency t-shirt to celebrate the good news for North Korea.

Kim Jong-un was seen clapping and grinning away, while his daughter Kim Ju-ae who is believed to be aged 10 appeared more reserved with her expression.

In traditional North Korean style, the launch was blasted across state media to the country’s delight.

Scores of technicians from the National Aerospace Technology Administration joined Kim’s daughter in sporting the blue and red NATA t-shirts.

But interestingly Kim did not opt for one and instead wore his classic black trench coat.

He was also spotted celebrating the success with young scientists – a slight change from surrounding himself with North Korea’s senior cadres, top military officials and soldiers.

Earlier in the week Kim stunned with a light brown coat as he attended the launch of a spy satellite.

KCNA state news agency said North Korea has a fair few reasons to do this. ‘Strengthening its self-defensive capabilities’ and ‘defiantly ramping up war preparedness’ in the face of ‘the enemies’ dangerous military moves’ being among them.

Kim casually watched the ‘successful’ rocket liftoff that came after two failed attempts to launch spy satellites this year.

He has also increasingly started taking his daughter to missile launches for some apparent work experience.

Like her dad she’s quite the style icon after she was spotted wearing a £1,950 Christian Dior jacket in March.

She could be seen wearing the plush patterned hoodie as she watched the launch of the Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile at Pyongyang International Airport on March 16.

She only appeared in public for the first time last November – at a massive ballistic missile launch, of course.

She was, for a time, simply known as Kim’s ‘beloved daughter’, though some see her sudden presence in the public eye as a sign she’s his heir-apparent.

BBC Breakfast viewers were left concerned after Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were evacuated from the studio.

The pair had been reporting live on Friday morning, when the show was suddenly pulled off air.

A news report was interrupted and cut to BBC News, leaving viewers concerned, as behind-the-scenes Naga and Charlie were rushed out of the building, with a live report from Aerospace Bristol changing to a broadcaster covering the Israel-Hamas war suddenly.

‘Hope everyone in #BBCBreakfast studio is ok and it’s just a technical glitch,’ one person wrote.

Another commented: ‘It’s weirdly unnerving.’

Someone else said: ‘Building was evacuated – #bbcbreakfast is back. Phew!’

‘I hope everyone is OK on @BBCBreakfast Odd switch to @BBCNews,’ a fourth penned.

Returning to the red sofa after several minutes, Naga explained: ‘You’re returning to BBC Breakfast.

‘Apologies, we had an evacuation in the building but we are back now with you to keep you up to date with the latest in the news.’

It has yet to be confirmed whether the evacuation was for a fire alarm or another incident.

This wouldn’t be the first time a BBC fire alarm has interrupted live programming.

In March last year, presenters Rachel Burden and Roger Johnson were midway through conducting an interview with The Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur when they were interrupted.

‘We’ve been disturbed by an alarm which may mean that we have to slow things down for a moment,’ Rachel said, after an alarm went off.

‘I’m so sorry everyone. For the time being, we’re going to have to leave the studios.

‘So we’ll see if we can come back before the end of the show,’ she explained.

Over the alarm, a voice could be heard saying: ‘Attention, attention, please evacuate the building via the nearest exit. Please do not use the lifts.’

Decades after they were wiped out by Soviet hunters, blue whales are making a return to the crystal clear waters of the Seychelles.

Researchers spent a year recording beneath the waves to detect the whales after filmmakers caught sight of them in 2021, and found they could be breeding in the area.

Blue whales are the largest animal to have ever lived on Earth, growing up to 30m in length and weighing up to 150 tons. Once prolific in the Indian Ocean and beyond, sustained hunting in the 20th century resulted in more than 340,000 being killed.

The species is now classified as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

However, numbers are increasing following a near worldwide ban on whaling, and their return to the Seychelles has been described as a ‘conservation win’ by the team, who published their findings in the journal Endangered Species Research.

‘It turns out if you stop killing animals on mass scales and you give them a chance to rebound, they can recover,’ said Dr Kate Stafford, one of the lead investigators.

Speaking to the BBC, she added: ‘We want to know where they are coming back, and knowing there’s a population around the Seychelles is incredibly exciting.’

Populations around the tropical islands were particularly targeted in the early decades of last century by Soviet whalers on their way to and from the Antarctic.

To determine whether the magnificent species had returned to the region, Dr Stafford and the team spent a month surveying the waters and listening to an underwater microphone for signs of them. 

Unfortunately, there were none.

‘We heard remarkable things – the tapping of sperm whales thousands of feet down and dolphins echolocating and communicating, but sadly no blue whales,’ said wildlife sound recordist Chris Watson, speaking to BBC News.

However, the team had also planted a sound trap, which recorded every 15 minutes for a year. Within the masses of audio data were the loud and low sounds of blue whales, mainly during March and April.

‘This means the Seychelles could be really important for blue whales,’ said Dr Stafford. ‘They sing during the breeding season and we think it’s probably the males who are singing, based on what we know about other whales.

‘So there’s also potential that the Seychelles is a breeding area or a nursery area.’

However, the song of the blue whale, despite being the loudest in nature, is inaudible to humans. 

Although reaching up to 188 decibels, equivalent to a jet engine, the frequency is so low it is beyond the range of human hearing.

What humans can hear are the whales’ ‘harmonics’, higher frequency sounds emitted when they sing.

‘It’s this really low, deep, consistent pulse,’ said Mr Watson.

‘When I recorded blue whales in Mexico, that was what was resonating in my headphones.’

The recordings even allowed the team to see which population was visiting the Seychelles, identifying them as a group normally found in the northern Indian Ocean.

The Seychelles is just one area in which blue whales are making a return. In recent years they have returned to the waters around South Georgia, and in 2021 they were spotted off Spain’s Atlantic coast for the first time in more than 40 years.

Raphael Varane’s relationship with Erik ten Hag has ‘broken down’ after a ‘frank’ exchange between the pair following the Dutchman’s decision to leave the defender out for the Manchester derby.

Despite injury to Lisandro Martinez this season, Varane has lost his spot as a regular starter.

Ten Hag favours a left-footer at left centre-back but in Martinez’s absence, he’s opted to play Jonny Evans there.

But, with Victor Lindelof ruled out of the derby, Varane had expected to start – only to be benched in favour of Evans.

That was the final straw for Varane, who made it clear to Ten Hag how angry he was according to the Daily Mail.

Varane has only made three substitute appearances since the derby, despite Evans being injured.

Bayern Munich are now looking to capitalise on the situation with a move for Varane in January.

The Germans value him at around £25m, though he would need to take a significant paycut to secure a move to the Allianz Arena.

Dolly Parton scored the biggest touchdown during her performance at the Thanksgiving NFL game half-time show.

The 9 to 5 singer, 77, left the audience’s hearts beating wild as she took to the stage during yesterday’s Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders game which ended with a 45 – 10 victory for the Cowboys.

Performing to a sold-out crowd at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Dolly belied her age as she strutted out in a daring, bedazzled Cowboys cheerleader outfit.

But it was the crowd left cheering for the music icon as she belted out her biggest hits 9 to 5 and Jolene as well as a rendition of Queen’s We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions.

Following her set for the 27th annual Red Kettle Kickoff, CBS announcer Tony Romo praised the Here You Come Again singer.

‘She was wearing the… Cowboys cheerleading outfit,’ he began, discussing the set with Jim Nantz. ‘You saw that coming, didn’t you?’

‘You said, “I think she’s going to go with a liiiittle cheerleading outfit tonight”, and I was like, “wow, pretty good.”‘

And they weren’t the only ones, with fans taking to social media branding the star a ‘national treasure’.

‘If a Genie gave me one wish I’d ask to be as hot as Dolly Parton at 77 or any age really,’ one person posted to X (formerly Twitter).

Another added: ‘Dolly Parton is one of those extremely rare public figures who is genuinely and universally beloved, which would be more than enough at this point to rest her laurels on, but instead, even now, she always gives it her all just for the sake of giving it her all. 💜’

One user was calling for Dolly to become the next President of the United States, saying: ‘Joe Biden is 81. Donald Trump is 77. If we have to elect an old person, let it be Dolly Parton.’

Dolly’s set was part of her larger campaign in support of the Salvation Army this holiday season.

It also coincides with the release of the country icon’s first rock album, Rockstar, on November 17.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Dolly, who has been in the music industry for six decades, revealed why now was the right time to dip her toes into the pool of hard rock.

‘I’d often thought I might want to do a rock album at some point. I’d done a few rock songs scattered here and there on my albums, and I’d done some covers of rock songs, making them kind of Country or bluegrass,’ she revealed.

‘But when I got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, a place in my heart said “I hadn’t really earned that position.” I thought ‘If I’m ever going to do a rock album, I want to earn it. I’m big on timing. It seemed the right thing to do at the right time. I’m proud I did it and I’m real proud of how it turned out.’

A couple say they are exhausted and feel miserable after spending the last eight years receiving incorrect Boots deliveries.

Martin and Brenda Tizzard, from Walton, Liverpool, share a similar address with a local Boots store and say they have lost count of how many parcels are wrongfully delivered to their home.

The frequent deliveries have made it a routine for the husband and wife to walk up the road to drop off deliveries.

Martin said: ‘The amount of times we have to go over to that Boots we might as well be unpaid workers.

‘These boxes are big and god knows what’s in them. I think some of these deliveries could be worth a lot of money.’

The couple’s torture began when new shopping units opened in 2015 on their street.

‘It was a big event when the Boots opened. The Mayor at the time came over to open them,’ Martin said.

‘We’ve lived here for 16 years this situation with deliveries from Boots has made it a nightmare.’

The 68-year-old believes the issue is due to Boots having a similar address to his own and the close proximity of the store and his home.

Google Maps also says the Boots store is Martin and Brenda’s home.

Delivery drivers go ‘name blind’ and just see the address rather than who it is addressed to.

Martin said: ‘I tell the drivers they’ve got the wrong address and they just say “all I see is the number”.’

The mix-up isn’t isolated to just one particular delivery company either.

He said: ‘I think there’s about five or six delivery companies that have wrongly delivered it could be more it’s hard tell when they deliver in white vans.’

While Martin can see the funny side of the couple’s predicament it still causes a lot of trouble for them.

He said: ‘My wife has got arthritis and it does her no good to keep hobbling over the road to drop stuff off. I’m really at my wits end now.’

He also acknowledges the seriousness associated with the wrongful delivery of these parcels.

‘I don’t know how people sleep at night knowing these parcels could end up in the wrong hands,’ he said.

Martin has attempted to solve the issue with Boots but has so far been unsuccessful.

He said: ‘When I go into the shop they just shrug their shoulders. I feel like we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

‘I’ve never been in touch with the delivery companies because there’s no way of contacting them and a lot of them drive white vans. I’m often never sure where the deliveries are coming from.’

I’m A Celebrity stars Nella Rose and Fred Sirieix appear to be back on track after their row but fans have some thoughts.

The two campmates had an intense clash earlier this week after First Dates star Fred, 51, said he felt like the 26-year-old YouTuber’s dad because of their age gap.

However, Nella – who lost both parents at a young age – said she felt ‘disrespected’ by his comments, although the Road Trip presenter profusely apologised.

She accepted his apology but told him to not talk to her and to stay away from her in the camp.

On Thursday, they were both part of the Locker Shocker challenge, and as two of the five celebrities who won the task, they have had to live in a more intimate setting.

Things seemed to thaw for the pair after they volunteered to pair up on the Slam Dunk’d challenge, and they even shared a high five after winning a slap-up breakfast for their team.

While fans were delighted to see the unexpected ‘plot twist’ by the end of the trial, other viewers have speculated that I’m A Celeb bosses may have got involved off camera.

‘Defo reckon [producers] had word in private with Nella to say she’s proper hated and 100% leaving if she doesn’t make up with Fred,’ one fan suggested on X/Twitter.

‘Nella has definitely been told off by producers for how she acted towards Fred. She’s been much nicer towards him this episode,’ another viewer replied, while a third person added: ‘Shame that producers have clearly stepped in between Nella & Fred’.

And someone else said: ‘With someone else also agreeing: ‘Nella 100% has been told by itv producers to fix up, she’s hugging and praising Fred within a click of a finger.’

Others had simply taken delight in the fact the pair had fixed things and looked ready to move on.

‘Ahhh that put a smile on my face I’m glad man! Nella and Fred smashed that,’ wrote one viewer, as another added: ‘You guys are more bothered about the Nella and Fred beef more than they are. You can get over it now.’

There had been online backlash to Nella’s initial response to the row, which TV star London Hughes said on X was loaded with ‘racial prejudice.’

The 34-year-old comedian wrote: ‘Whether you choose to believe it isn’t my problem. But there’s real hatred in these tweets aimed at Nella! It’s dripping with racial prejudice.

‘Words like ”sub-human” and “disgusting animal” to describe a black girl you disagree with on a family entertainment show? Really?’

London is not the only celebrity to have defended Nella’s reaction to Fred, with Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter calling him a ‘weirdo’, while others had defended him over the incident.

Fred’s First Dates co-stars Cici Coleman and Laura Tott, meanwhile, previously said on This Morning that arguments in a ‘pressure cooker’ environment were inevitable.

Cici said: ‘They are going to have moments where things are misconstrued, misunderstood and it’s normal, things will happen.’

Ronnie O’Sullivan continues to be moved by the impact he has had on Judd Trump’s career, hailing the 34-year-old as ‘an all-time great’ of snooker already.

O’Sullivan’s new documentary ‘The Edge of Everything’ was released this week to a great reception, with the film coming to a climax with the 2022 World Championship final between the Rocket and Trump.

A memorable moment of that tournament was the epic hug between the two players after the match which seemed to last for an age on the Crucible floor.

The documentary revealed what the players said to each other during the mammoth embrace, with Trump thanking O’Sullivan for practicing with him years before and the influence he had on his young career.

Watching back that scene with the BBC, O’Sullivan became emotional again as he did at the time, clearly moved by the impact he had on the younger man.

‘That was a big match for me to play Judd,’ said O’Sullivan. ‘You know, he’s a phenomenal player. Me and Judd practised in the same facility and then Judd came down to London when he was about 18 or 19 [years old]. We used to practice in the same sort of place.

‘I think he kind of was watching and learning how I did my practice, what I practised. He even said it to me, he said when he decided to go back up to Bristol. I said “Why are you doing that?”

‘And he went “I learnt all I needed to learn off of you, the job was done. I knew there was nothing left for me to learn, so it’s time for me to go back to my family in Bristol”.

‘You know, that means a lot. I didn’t realise I had that impact on him.’

Trump has been the player of the season so far, lifting three trophies already and reaching two more finals as he looks to dislodge O’Sullivan from the world number one spot.

The Rocket would not be too upset to see the 2019 world champion do so, praising Trump’s snooker ethos and labelling him an all-time great even at this stage of his career.

‘I’ve always said I’d never begrudge Judd,’ O’Sullivan told reporters ahead of The Edge of Everything premiere. ‘He plays the game for the right reasons, he’s got a really good mentality toward the game.

‘I know him quite well, he’s quite quiet and shy, but he’s coming right out of his shell now. He’s matured a lot.

‘We’ve got great respect for each other, we really have. I’d say he’s an all-time great already and he’s still got years to go. A lot of respect for Judd.’

The Apprentice winner Marnie Swindells believes there is a desperate need for a woman to shake up the world of British boxing behind the scenes having made her first steps back into the sport.

Swindells, a former amateur champion boxer herself, secured investment to the tune of £250,000 from Lord Alan Sugar to help set up her Bronx boxing gym in Camberwell earlier this year.

Since hanging up her gloves, women’s boxing has undergone huge growth with 2022 a crowning year, featuring the all-female card led by Savannah Marshall and Claressa Shields and Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano tearing the house down on a historic night in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

In the ring, the sport has taken on new life, with Taylor’s undisputed super-lightweight title rematch against Chantelle Cameron this weekend in Dublin serving as one of the biggest fights to see out 2023.

But outside of it, there is a lack of female figures at an administration level, as well as the promotional side of the game ruled by Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions in the UK.

Intent on building her own boxing gym empire to produce future world champions, Swindells also has an eye firmly on entering the world of boxing promotion, believing the sport is crying out for ‘a women’s perspective’ at the top table.

‘I have so much respect for the female pro boxers who have paved the way and been persistent,’ Swindells told Metro.co.uk in an exclusive interview.

‘From my perspective, there is still a huge gap in the market for a woman in boxing on the business side of things. When you look at the climate for promoters, managers and behind the scenes in the sport, there are no women on the business side of things. So I would like to bang on that door. The landscape has come on leaps and bounds but the more women involved, the more competitive things get, the more characters we have and the more fights we will see.

‘My ultimate goal is to open as many gyms as possible. But with that, there will come talented fighters and I will be damned if I sit back and watch them leave and go be with other managers and promoters.

‘I would eventually like to develop an inhouse pathway starting right at the bottom, bringing in amateurs and protecting them, pushing them up to the professional ranks and to put on professional shows as a promoter. I want people to know we have arrived.’

The landscape of boxing has undergone major changes with the rise of the influencer scene, spearheaded by KSI, Jake Paul and Tommy Fury and standalone promotions Misfits and Kingpyn Boxing.

Even compared to the wild west of professional boxing, its influencer and YouTuber alternative that attracts a huge following has drawn criticism. Out of control press conferences, bizarre match-ups and borderline dangerous fights have left the sport with a black eye at times with its traditional values of little concern to those looking to cash in ahead of others who have dedicated much of their lives to learning their trade.

Intent on growing her own stable of fighters, Swindells is eager to harness the best of both worlds, believing the traditional side of the game can learn something from its chaotic counterpart.

‘Professional boxing has a lot to learn from the likes of Misfits and what they do to build a fighter,’ Swindells said. ‘There is a lot of chaos but what they do around PR, branding, marketing, social media, that gets overlooked in the world of real boxing. There is a stigma there for real boxers who won’t recognise it as real. But what they do in terms of promoting themselves is incredible and I think pro boxing can take a leaf out of their book.

‘I think there is a little bit of jealousy there from the purists’ perspective,’ she continued. ‘I think they will see what the influencer boxers are doing and say, “hold on a minute, I’ve worked my a**e off all this time building an amateur career and I’m not getting anywhere near enough attention as these guys”.

‘Sometimes they do not appreciate the work that has gone into the marketing and that is where the influencer focus has been. That is where there is a bit of jealousy, where these guys are earning so much more than what a pro is earning for doing a very similar job.’

Swindells’ connection with boxing is not a recent development. After taking up the sport at the age of 17, she had a successful amateur run, winning the Haringey Box Cup while also coaching others before taking a new direction.

Her Bronx gym is growing, with the current premises in south London expanding with plans to add more sites in the near future. With some emerging young talent already working out the gym and a few ‘really interesting amateur prospects’ following suit, the aim remains to build a hybrid of the traditional gyms that have produced some of the country’s most decorated champions aligned with her own vision.

‘The ultimate thing for a boxer is training and what they do in the ring,’ she said. ‘I want them to have that at Bronx but also where all the other stuff is taken care for them too. We can pad everything else around them and that is not necessarily what you get at old school boxing clubs. While the coaching is unparalleled in those places, we can offer guidance and support from the business perspective to help shape their career.

‘A lot of fighters gets lost on the way up. A lot of talent gets lost because they can’t get the right the deals, they can’t make a genuine living out of it,  they can’t get sponsorships.

‘I’ve watched so many great talents dwindle away into nothing because they are having to buy their own tickets, promoters on that small hall show level need their cut and the house needs to get paid. There is a huge weight on their shoulders and more promoters, more avenues and routes to the top can alleviate that.’

With the culmination of some of the genre’s biggest stories and big twists aplenty along the way, next week is one that soap fans most certainly won’t want to miss.

With Christmas just around the corner, EastEnders ramps things up, with Suki Panesar receiving central focus next week as abusive husband Nish discovers the truth about her affair with Eve Unwin.

The villain is on the warpath and soon turns to son Ravi Gulati for assistance, but just how far will he got to get revenge?

Emmerdale, meanwhile, sees two affairs in danger of being exposed, with Tracy Metcalfe and Caleb Milligan continuing to play with fire while David Metcalfe discovers Victoria Barton and Jacob Gallagher’s secret romance.

Over in Neighbours, Nell makes it her mission to help Melanie Pearson following some shocking truths coming to light, while Lucas Hay’s behaviour in Hollyoaks raises some eyebrows.

As for Coronation Street? Joseph Brown is rushed to hospital and Liam Connor is terrified for his life as Mason continues to bully him.

EastEnders

1. Suki is panicked when she realises that Priya knows the truth about her escape plan, agreeing to pay her off for her silence. Nish, however, secretly watches the exchange and later intercept. with Priya forced to cover with a convincing lie.

2. Priya blackmails Suki after she only receives £200 from the Minute Mart till, reminding her that she’ll blab if she doesn’t get the full amount. After Vinny informs him about the missing cash, Nish checks the CCTV of the shop and is horrified to see footage of Suki and Eve kissing. Enraged, the villain spills all to Ravi, determined to find out the truth.

3. Stacey goes to see Theo ahead of his plea hearing, trying to manipulate him into pleading guilty by agreeing to restart their ‘relationship’ if he does so. Theo, however, reacts badly. Jean encourages her daughter to stay away from the hearing but Stacey attends, anxiously awaiting him to give evidence.

4. Jack consoles Stacey and, in shock scenes, Stacey reveals all about how she planted the wrench on Theo to protect Freddie. Jack, horrified, reveals his intention to spill the beans to the police, but Stacey pleads with him to keep shtum.

5. Karen is shocked when she finds out Mitch has organised a surprise party for her, but things spiral out of control when Malcolm arrives, with Albie taking a shine to him. After chatting to Sharon, Malcolm comes to realise the truth about Karen and Keanu’s kidnap plot and he is disgusted.

6. Mitch grows suspicious of Karen’s insistence on splashing the cash and, after walking in on her conversation with Keanu, he demands the truth as Karen tearfully reveals all. Mitch is disgusted to learn about Karen’s involvement in Albie’s kidnapping and insists they must give the money back.

Coronation Street

7. Ed is shocked when Sarge arrives early. Ronnie, meanwhile, suggests a big family meal out, insisting that he and Ed will pick up the bill. Having taken out a payday loan, Ed scans the racing pages and later watches the racing on his phone while Sarge makes digs. Dee-Dee quietly explains to Joel that Sarge thinks they lost their house because of a bad business decision, not Ed’s gambling. Having lost his bet Ed sweats. Ronnie pays for lunch, telling Ed he can give him half later.

8. Liam tries to pull a sickie, but Maria’s having none of it. In the school corridor, Mrs Crawshaw overhears Liam quizzing Dylan about the vapes. She orders Dylan to her office while Mason glares at Liam. George, meanwhile, offers Liam some advice.

9. Joseph is unwell and, on Bernie’s advice, Gemma makes him a lavender tea in the hopes it will perk him up. Joseph, however, passes out, with Chesney calling the ambulance as he blames himself, wishing he’d listened to Gemma, who previously voiced her concerns. The doctor, meanwhile, reveals that Joseph has been poisoned.

10. With the Christmas lunch in full swing, Paul, Billy, Bernie, Gemma and the quads having a great time. The mood, however, swiftly changes when Chesney and Joseph return home from the hospital with a child protection officer, who wants to interview Gemma. With everyone out of the house, Caitlin questions a horrified Gemma and suggests that she may have poisoned Joseph on purpose.

11. Nina assures Asha that she’s looking forward to lunch with Isla and her senior colleague Miles, as it’s time they got to know each other’s friends. Nina arrives at Speed Daal in time to hear Asha bigging up her to Miles and Isla and explaining that she’s a budding fashion designer.

12. Crystal calls at the bistro and invites Ryan to join her at a new bar in town later. Ryan’s delighted. Ryan takes a call offering him a job. He’s taken aback and quickly covers in front of Leanne.

Emmerdale

13. With Chloe having absconded with his son, Mack is at his wits end, having spent the whole night searching for her. Desperate for answers, he confronts Amy and Matty, who are shocked by how low he is. Charity is quick to reassure an emotional Mack that they will get Reuben back and encourages him to stay on Amy’s good side.

14. David’s birthday arrives but the attention is on Jacob, who is dodging questions about who his mystery girlfriend is, allowing everyone to believe that Gabby is the woman in question. David, however, gets the shock of his life when he sees Jacob and Victoria kissing through the window. Rocked by a number of shocks, David decides to leave the village he’s called home for over a decade.

15. With his efforts to mend bridges backfiring, Amit decides to leave the village. Suni encourages Laurel to hear him out, with Laurel subsequently approaching Nicky in a bid to find out why Amit attacked him. Nicky stays shtum but Suni is quick to think he’s spilled the beans and thus dumps him, though quickly comes to regret his decision.

16. Tracy struggles to resist temptation where Caleb is concerned and, at Cain’s party, the two share a passionate kiss in the toilet corridor at the Woolpack, with Cain nearly catching them in the act.

17. Gail pushes Ryan to be more open with his feelings.

Hollyoaks

18. Nadira and Camilla get passionate, with Sienna stunned to find the pair together. Sienna urges Nadira to come clean, with a subsequent showdown seeing her reveal the truth to Rafe. Rafe later pops the question to Sienna, who gleefully accepts. Ethan, meanwhile, tries to propose to Sienna, but he’s set to be left heartbroken once more.

19. Yazz and Tom are at loggerheads, with their marriage on the rocks. Yazz attends Leela’s Christmas party at The Loft, where things get steamy between she and Ethan, with a passionate kiss exchanged – just as Tom walks in!

20. Lucas suddenly falls sick after a text from Dillon, who says he’ll see him at the football training. James, however, is intrigued by his behaviour and pushes him, with Lucas making a shock revelation involving bullying claims which Dillon denies. Lucas later admits that he lied, but the question is: why?

21. Peri and Romeo decide to give it another go but first Peri thinks they need to get Juliet’s blessing and together they ask for it by her graveside.

Neighbours

22. Melanie goes for a police interview without her lawyer present. Nell pleads with Toadie to intervene but he shows little concern, that is until Mel offers to attend one of Nell’s therapy sessions and thus he softens towards her and arranges for her case to be assigned one of the best legal aid lawyers in the city.

23. Concerned about the atmosphere between Remi and Cara, JJ and Dex decide to play cupid, re-creating their mums’ first date in the sunroom. But will their plan pay off?

24. David receives an intriguing job offer, which leads him to make a big decision about both his own future and those of his loved ones. But will he be staying put in Erinsborough?

25. Byron struggles with Reece’s departure.

Late actor Matthew Perry was honoured during a Thanksgiving celebration in New York City.

The Chandler Bing star’s death devastated Friends fans around the world last month after Perry was found dead in his hot tub at age 54.

Results of a toxicology report to determine his cause of death are still pending.

Tributes have flooded the internet since the shocking news broke and Perry is still being remembered in special ways, such as the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

In a subtle but sweet moment, singer Jax performed a cover of Jet’s Are You Gonna Be My Girl while on top of a Toys ‘R’ Us float.

She wore a grey sweater imprinted with a shot of one of Perry’s famous scenes in Friends.

The scene in question showed Monica wearing a turkey on her head, with a shocked Perry as Chandler beside her.

Taken from the episode titled The One With All The Thanksgivings in the 90s sitcom, the flashback scene involves Monica recalling when she tried to embarrass Chandler by seducing him into stripping off as revenge for calling her ‘fat’ once.

Her plans backfired, though, when she almost chopped his toe off by dropping a knife.

Fast forward to the ‘present day’ and an upset Chandler storms out, with Monica later placing the turkey on her head as a joke to get them back on good terms.

The tribute from Jax didn’t go unnoticed by fans, who took to social media to point it out.

‘Jax with a nice tribute to Matthew Perry. Very very cool’, one viewer tweeted alongside a photo of their TV.

‘Love Jax’s special Friends Thanksgiving tribute t-shirt. Matthew Perry, this one’s for you’, wrote another.

‘Jax wearing a hoodie with Matthew Perry has my heart melting’, one penned.

Perry’s Friends co-stars have all shared tributes of their own following his death, beginning with a joint statement before posting their own messages online.

‘We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,’ they said in a joint statement sent to People.

‘There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.

‘In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.’

It’s believed David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow are now planning a new way to remember Perry with a reunion of sorts.

According to reports, the iconic cast are in early talks to appear at the Emmy Awards in January, where they will share ‘personal memories’ of their late friend and colleague.

‘When it comes to Matthew’s death, emotions are still running high and it is still a very touchy situation, which is totally understandable,’ a source told the Daily Mail.

‘But Jen, Lisa, and the rest of the cast want to honour him publicly at some point and give him the tribute he so rightfully deserves – and there have been rumblings to do it at next year’s Emmys.’

Perry – who was very open about his substance abuse issues – during his life was laid to rest on November 2, with his loved ones gathering to say goodbye at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills neighborhood.

The cemetery where Perry’s service was held is the final resting place of many other stars, including Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, Carrie Fisher, and Paul Walker.
